I am losing weight by going old fashioned with a lower cal diet and exercise. Lost about 25 lbs so far, physically I feel great. I eat lots of healthy choice meals, those have really worked for me.

I hovered around 170 (5'11") from high school (18) to about two years ago (29). I am now 31 and starting to develop some weight gain which I never had before. I am up to 180

LOL I see what you are saying but I don't want it to develop into a issue now. I rather get control of it now than later.

Like AA was saying about "get off the couch", I live a extremely active life. For instance this past weekend, I kayaked 11 miles. Then couple weeks before that I tore off and on a new roof on my house. You want to talk pure manual hard work.

So the reason why I have not gained a ton of weight even while eating anything I want is because of my active life. But it has started to creep up on me and after several attempts to get into a meal plan, I just always falter. I wake up to late for work, rush to get out the door and have nothing to eat. I then stop on the way to work and grab a milk and honey bun. Then lunch I do a lot of subway chicken breast sandwiches. There is no snacks in between and I think keeping the metabolism constantly moving is hurting me. on top of not eating the best.

So today, I went out and bought couple packs of black berries, strawberries, oatmeal, string cheese, bag of chicken breast, low fat yogurt, grapes, and some veggies.

I am not looking to go pure paleo, but improve my eating.

            Thanks for the response AA!!

I think my body is hating me right now. I have been fighting a headache all day and tend to think it might be due to my lack of sugar intake "other than fruits". I cant help but feel it is related to me only eating veggies, fruits, chicken, and string cheese the last 2 days. Like a crack head not having a fix and feeling sick.

I could see not wanting to lose any muscle mass playing a factor.

Lol I tried this out for a week. Dropped 5lbs.

I know it's probably a bunch of water weight and that won't be typical every week but still pretty cool seeing as my weight loss had stalled for a while.

Surprisingly despite sticking to around 2000 cals per day I am eating 4 filling meals per day and haven't really felt hungry at all. I was hungry all the time eating a lot of 'healthy' grains like brown rice and wheat bread so I'm going to keep trying it out.

Obviously it's basically a fairly low carb, high protein diet (unless you eat a lot of fruit and I only usually have 1-2 pieces per day) but the high fat content from the meat and nuts etc and the fibre in the veges really helps keep you feeling full which is cool.

Starting this today. I was at a bachelor party over the weekend and a bunch of guys (who were CrossFit nuts of course) were talking about how much they loved it.

I've been a HUGE diary and carb guy my whole life, this is going to be a challenge.

I'll still be incorporating IF into this strategy, can't wait. Today went well, lots of fruits/veggies, grilled chicken for dinner, some almonds/almond milk and six eggs. The work week shouldn't be too shabby, the weekends will be tough even with IF on my side.

This is pretty much the way I eat as well for the most part and I love it. I do still have the occasional pasta/rice/chips blowout and still use protein powder (mainly for convenience) but I do think this is the best way to eat for overall health and well being.

I know for me it has resulted in better skin, great energy and my stomach issues have pretty much cleared up totally (other than after the pasta blowouts which my body lets me know is not cool in a big way).

When I'm not IFíng my usual diet for the day is:

Early morning post workout (protein shake)

Breakfast: 3-4 eggs, some ham and mushrooms

Lunch: Huge salad with mixed greens, avocado, tomato, nuts, protein (usually chicken) and a home-made oil and vinegar dressing.

Dinner: Big plate of veges and meat

If I get hungry between meals I'll just have some more nuts or some lean meats or occasionally another protein shake.

Thanks for the input, Jonesy. I think the basics of the diet being a ton of fruits/veggies and basically eliminating sugar from the body are the two biggest things.

What I'm worried about most is the variety of food. Grilled chicken/steak gets repetitive. Salmon/fish is so pricey it's difficult to eat more than once a week. I'd love to be like AA and eat wild salmon daily but it's not realistic for me.

^^^same which is basically why I only stick to it 80-90% of the time. As much I love eggs, veges and lean meats it can get repetitive at times but the results and health benefits are worth it for the most part.

Like you said it's the great nutrition from the veges/fruit and the removal of processed sugar's and refined carb's that provide the benefits but I find it really hard to stick to 100% of the time so I don't sweat the odd ''cheat'' meal.

You mean processed sugars right? Fruit has quite a bit of sugar in it. I guess that's why it's supposed to be limited?

Looking at the paleo guidelines, i pretty much already do this. Meat/Veges and some fruit/nuts. No processed sugars/carbs. I do eat a lot of eggs though. Only really drink coffee (black) and water.. (and beer when it calls for it!).
