Yeah both, have all the supplies like you mentioned and be ready for extended power outtages. Depending on exactly where you're moving to you could be without power for a long time. It sounds like you'll be in more of a populated area so it may not be that big of a problem. Just an example, I have relatives that live on a farm and they once went about 2 weeks without power after a hurricane.

You mean eastern Tennessee?
East Tennessee is nice. Maryville is a smaller town but very quaint. Small college, 2 high schools(24 state titles between the 2 in football), and a cool historic downtown area.
Knoxville is a decent sized city. Plenty to do but I'm not sure it would be what you're looking for in a retirement area.
Chattanooga is essentially Knoxville with about 25,000 fewer people.Twitter

Yup, and they better stay on that side, I don't want the Yankees to infest my part of the state.Comment

Mk. Knight - western NC is the prettiest part of America. The Mountains are beautiful especially in the fall plus we have Indians but we do not fight with them anymore. Times sure has changed around here.Comment

Re: Relocating / Anyone familiar with Kinston, NC?
A couple things, especially since you're coming from PA. If it snows the tiniest bit (or ice) everything shuts down, don't even try to go on the roads because it's insane. You may not have too much of a problem with that since you're a little further east. One other thing just to think about in order to be prepared is Hurricanes. Luckily since my wife and I moved down here we haven't had one but we will sooner or later. With all the tall pine trees down here power goes out a lot during storms.Comment
