    Anyone ever worked at Lowe's?

Got hired on in the home and garden department for the summer. Anyone ever worked for them? They are paying decent, $9.12/hr, not bad for a college kid.

If it's like the Depot you'll be part pack mule, part "can you tell me where this is?" answer guy, and part plant expert.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

I knew they didn't pay minimum wage and expected about $8.50. Was surprised it was up to $9. The other job I had interviewed for was 20 miles further away and paid MW :/

Yeah, they're hiring around here because of the spring/summer season. I'm going to put in an application myself, I heard they do pay pretty well. Someone I know knows someone who's getting 10.50$/hr (so they say).

I got lucky and looked to apply on the 13th, the jobs were posted the 12th. I got a call the 14th and interviewed the 18th. They had seasonal in just about every department. I would apply NOW, because they aren't going to drag this out trying to find someone.

My interview was your typical scenarios interview where you have to tell about a time when you blah blah blah.

Im actually a tractor Trailer driver for lowes, I dont have to put up with half the crap you will deal with. My Pay is actually really decent for the area, I know I make more than a few managers and I have only been there 8 months. Its pretty much like a normal job, I would really love my job If I didnt always have customers asking me questions, How the hell should I know where the gutters are, I drive a truck...

Its actually a pretty lax jab, you wont get fired unless you steal or tell a manager to f off. Other than that its cool.

BTW, Genesis blows, you will learn to hate it.

Right. I'm getting a car shortly (first one!) so I wanted to wait for that, but I guess it doesn't hurt to throw in an application now. Then again, I am working, just want to improve my situation. And trust me, it can only go up (minimum wage, no hope for a raise as has been made clear to me through management). It's such a pain not having your own transportation, that's why I'm working where I am. It's a 3 minute walk. We have an employee who takes public transportation to work and she's late all the time. If I worked elsewhere, they'd probably just tell her to stay home. I don't want to be late to work constantly because the buses are running late. I guess it's an excuse but why waste my time going through the whole process of getting a new job, putting in my 2 weeks where I already am, then possibly getting laid off because it's seasonal only and I'm late all the time. And then I'm out of the job I currently hold even though I'm definitely not happy with that situation either.

                      Ugh! Decisions, decisions.

Re: Anyone ever worked at Lowe's?

This job is only seasonal. I am hoping it goes till the middle of August at least. That would actually be great as it would give me a couple weeks of real summer.

Anyone work there know how strict the dress code is? I noticed it's usually collared shirts and khaki shorts. Hopefully working mainly outside I can wear basketball shorts.

I worked there during college and they were great. They worked with my schedule and I didn't have to do any crazy stuff and if you don't get tested on the fork lift and other equipment, you don't have to use them.

I don't remember if the dress code required you to wear khaki shorts or not.

I just started back at Lowe's for the third time. (started at the end of my senior year of high school and through my sophomore year of college, then summer after my junior year, and now the end of my senior year until I figure out what to do with my life, likely grad school) You can wear jeans, khaki pants or shorts. However the last time I checked, they do want you to wear the normal brown khaki color and not navy or olive, etc. T-shirts are acceptable as well as hats that bear the Lowe's name/symbol/whatever.

I worked there back in college. I got unlucky and got Hardware position. I can't tell you how annoying it was to put up boxes of nails, screws, wall hangers, etc. Then worst part had to be help customers with all their handy man ideas....."How do I do this and what do I need".....How the hell should I know, I can't even see your application AGGGGGGG.

But in the end the worst part was re-keying locks and cutting glass.

It is a good college job, but I could of never stayed there as a career.
