Re: Bin Laden is dead!
Don't get me wrong. It was a great accomplishment to FINALLY bring him down, but lets keep it in perspective. Terrorism will NEVER go away, so what exactly are we celebrating? We can be content that justice has been served, and pride has been restored in the country...but how long will this jubilation last? I think my issue is that I know this is only temporary joy, because months from now, the honeymoon will be over. Either we keep this renewed spirit going, or don't bother to celebrate at all, and that just isn't realistic.
It will last as long as it takes.
This country united when we had 3,000 lives taken away. Car horns were blasting in unity, vigils, concerts, etc.....
Allow the joy to happen as some people and their families will have some type of closure.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
Wow, how about we are remembering the 3,000 lives lost 10 yrs ago, all the victims and their families.
It will last as long as it takes.

While the "War" on terrorism will never end really, these accomplishments go a long way in the healing process.Joshua:

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
It seems like I'm the minority here but I'm not celebrating. I think taking him out now is a bad move as far as the war on terror is concerned. Additionally, the way in which he was killed (taking a shot that killed someone who wasn't a target) is absurd and shouldn't have happened. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
So I'm reading that Osama shielded himself behind HIS WIFE when US forces opened fire on him.
What a ****ing pansy. As if I needed more reason to want this guy to burn in the deepest of hells. Hopefully the notion of him as a brave warrior burns with him.Last edited by Chip Douglass; 05-02-2011, 05:03 PM.I write things on the Internet.

I agree Sky, it's been happening since I can remember in the 70's. I just feel people need to be reminded of the lives lost and their families at times like this.Comment

Re: Bin Laden is dead!
You're oversimplifying things. In a vacuum it's a great move. Although with the current scenario in the war on terror it doesn't look so great. He hasn't claimed responsibility for anything in a while. He's definitely not as important as he was. Killing him gives the insurgency a major rallying point since he was killed. Additionally, the way in which he got killed (civilian casualties in a guns blazing type operation) is one of the main criticisms that "extremist" groups have of America. It's essentially feeding the fire.My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

He was still important. He was still the leader of Al-Qaeda. He was still the guy who killed thousands of Americans on American soil and countless others around the world.
Hundreds of Service Members have lost their lives in the hunt for this guy and many more are forever scarred from their injuries. Killing him brings closure to those service members but also the thousands of victims he killed in numerous terrorist attacks.
This is a great move.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment
