I got a promotion!

Well, I'm not officially promoted yet, but my boss told me that as soon as they can find someone to fill my position, I'm going to be promoted.

It's not what I thought I would be doing a year ago when I graduated with a degree in Journalism from Penn State, but it's a good career move with a great opportunity in a growing company, I believe.

I'll be an assistant manager at a convenience store... it's much better than it sounds... lol. Pay is more than I would make at an entry level position in my field, believe it or not, and store managers make GREAT money. I don't want to name the company (I doubt anyone remembers me mentioning it in past posts) or the pay, but people are always surprised when I tell them what management makes in the company.


I'm just excited to finally start my career, and I feel like that's what I'm doing. I've got a plan to move up in the company quickly with my work ethic and fast learning ability, so I know I can make an excellent career out of this.

I just wanted to share my excitement with OS. Hooray!

Congrats and yeah, most people would be surprised how much convenience store managers/owners make over the course of a year.

Not to steal your thunder but I just got a promotion as well! I was offered it in March but was denied a raise until cash flow was better. I accepted it last Wednesday with a nice 15% raise! I wanted to get into Java Development but I put that on hold for now as I couldn't turn down the money. I am now a Software Services Technician. I do work, son!

Congrats man! Being employed right now is a good thing and moving up is even better. I worked for a convenience two summers ago while back in school and I certainly have more respect for that line of work. You have to deal with so much crap, work weird hours, and the pay isn't the greatest starting out. I was just a cashier but I know running a store can be crazy with all the turnover.

Convenience store Managers make loot! Lots of people don't realize that. I almost took a job with QT (QuikTrip) after college, but decided against it. Not that I regret it, but I wonder how high up I would've been by now (4 years later).
