Congrats bgeno! Sounds like you are digging what you're doing, and that's always the most important thing.

Just curious, though...if we can return to your journalism degree for a moment. What was your aim for that? News, magazines, author, teacher, editor? Just curious really, and wondering if there's still something on the horizon for that.

Sick dude. I remember this thread, or at least you relaying stories about your work. Sounds like you've put in the hard work, and it's going to start paying off with your own store.

Not to steal your thunder either, but my GM told me that with payroll lean, he has to give hours to those who deserve them most, which is how I had figured it worked but hearing it from his mouth made me proud to say, I'm #1 in hours. I certainly need them, and that's why I come in and do my best and help out any way I can. It helps the people and company really do care for their employees, a complete difference from my second job where we're all expendable (or so they think!)

Anyway, keep doing what you do and congrats again!

I studied journalism with a broadcast focus, so my plan was to turn the degree into a TV or radio job, hopefully in sports. The national sports media is full of former athletes and people who basically just got lucky or are loud and opinionated. I learned to DESPISE the local news because it is all about ratings--they'll do whatever they can to scare you into watching--and I didn't want anything to do with it. Local sports media isn't exactly what I expected it to be and, when you think about it, most sports happen at night, and I wanted to be able to have kids and a family and actually spend time with them. The only jobs I seemed to be able to attract were part-time broadcasting gigs or offers of jobs in Radio Ad Sales, which was definitely not what I wanted.

The company I am with now is growing incredibly fast. There are tons of opportunities to advance and make good money with a company that truly cares about its PEOPLE (both the customers and the employees), and I have learned how important that truly is to me. We just keep opening more and more stores in the area and that creates more and more opportunities. Store managers make good money too. The store managers at the top stores in the company are making 10k per quarter in bonuses on top of their base salaries.

I don't have any intentions of joining the broadcasting world again. I am gonna keep working my way up at the company I am with and hopefully some day that will lead me to marketing or PR or something like that, so I can use my communications skills again.
