    Storm Chasing Thread

Just curious if anyone on Operation Sports storm chases? I live just north of Chicago so we don't get that many big storms. However, I always pay attention to other areas and watch all the storm chaser shows on tv.

I find weather to be quite interesting.

Anyways, the set-up today is probably the best for my area this year. I am in good position today I think.

This is a big interest of mine as well. Earlier this spring north carolina had a bad out break of tornadoes. One demolished a Lowe's hardware store. That line of storms fired up just to the east of where I live, and thank god for that. I'd be very interested in hearing other peoples stories.

I do storm chasing, last year was a VERY active year up here and I did quite a bit of storm chasing then.
I witnessed quite a few tornadoes last year, including several right here in the city of Grand Forks during the massive tornado outbreak up here on June 17. Drove a few miles from my house and just happened to see a tornado plop down by the airport. That was a crazy day.

Anyway, I'm hoping we have some good opportunities this year. It's always a blast to go chasing storms and just watch how they develop and progress.

I don't know weather to put this in the other weather thread or here, but Joplin, MO has been nearly completely destroyed by an apparent EF-4 tornado. Watch the Weather Channel now, unreal live footage, the reporter is literally helping people look for their friends and neighbors.

Then he started running away from the hospital, which took a direct hit, because they were told there was a fear of a large explosion.

Couple of screen grabs I took:

It was pretty clear early on there was a strong possibility of large hail/tornados... unbelievable amounts of instability all across the midwest.

I was visiting Greenville when those storms hit. That was pretty scary.

I just figure when we get another nice setup, I can come here and ask where the best place to chase on a particular day is.

It sounds like we'll see a high-risk area ID'd by the SPC for tomorrow. The EHI forecast for southeast Kansas tomorrow is 12, which is the max. Could be another rough day.

EDIT: Here is the latest Day 2 outlook verbiage from SPC:

Yup.. High risk. Rare for them to issue that. Looks like big tornado day in that area.

Yeah, not something they put out lightly. Hopefully it's a bust, but I'm really worried we're going to get a huge outbreak tomorrow.

They've shifted the moderate risk to include areas farther east, including where I live. I'm hoping this won't be a big event.
