Do I have a legitimate beef?

I know I am gonna get the whole "be lucky you have a job" thing, and I agree, but my work, on 4th of July weekend, scheduled me to work 4 hours on that Saturday and 4 on that Monday.

I had planned on having to work, that's not the big deal at all, but to miss out on seeing family and celebrating the 4th of July for 8 ****ing hours is just not worth it. I would sacrifice the $72 I would make for a weekend at the lake. They don't even pay extra for working on Holidays...

I know there isn't really **** I can do except see if someone wants a few extra hours, but am I in the wrong to be pissed off?

4 hours on Saturday........4 hours on monday........that's nothing.

When I did retail I had to work the whole day of 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

So be lucky you working 4 hours Saturday, have sunday off and 4 hours monday.

8 hours of work for 72 dollars doesn't seem worth it to me.

that being said, 4 hours and 4 hours is nothing. It'll go by fast.

You read it wrong. My complaint it my entire holiday weekend is gone for 8 hours of work when it will be completely dead, I will literally be standing around doing nothing the entire time. If I was scheduled a full shift I would be perfectly fine.

At least our store manager isn't a DB and schedules himself to work these summer holidays too.

I once worked security at an airport. My off days were Tuesday and Wednesday, so seeing as though most holidays are observed on Monday...seeing as though Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc, all fell on days I had to work...seeing as though I HAD to work overtime because my hours depended on when the last plane departed (there would be times I didn't leave work until 12am...and I started at 11am)...and seeing that I only made $8/hour...and that this was only 5 years ago, I would say...in fact, I won't say anything...I'll let you decide whether your beef is legit or not.

Try to get out of it, or try to get full days. It does suck to waste a couple of days for two 4 hour shifts.

Are you a student or something working a part time job?

I'd be upset if I was only getting 4 hours in one day no matter when it was. The fact that it falls on 4th of July would just make it worse. I'd definitely try to give those hours to someone else.

Having worked in retail, I can say that even though it sucks to have to work at all on holidays, it is much more desireable in my opinion to have to only work short hours on those days than waste the whole day at work. I agree with GMSS in that 4 hours each day will pass quickly. However, if your family is going away for the weekend and you can't go because you have to work just those 8 hours, then yeah I'd be pissed too.

Oh well I am taking that week off. I need to start using vacation days. I have maxed the amount I can bank, and will start losing them soon.

I will literally go home and do nothing until night time each night, so it's not like I am working a quick 4 hours then going to do something. Not much to do when it's 100* out and there isn't a lake to jump into around lol.

Your best bet is to try to pick up more hours..... noone is going to take on those shifts, so pick up theirs.

You have nothing to complain about.

Forgive me, but you choose to work there. They need someone to work, so why not you? I could understand if you have seniority over someone who has it off, but those details are not available to us.

Every job I've ever had, except my current one, had me working weekends and holidays. It sucks, but it's a free society, and if you don't like it, you can bounce. I hate to be that guy, but it's really the truth.

Yeah, it sucks. Everyone wants the cool holidays off. But the bottom line is that you're working and a lot of people would probably love to be in the predicament that you're in.

Please don't take offense... But if it's a huge deal, you can walk bro.

I work every holiday, unless it falls on the weekend. The airline business doesnt take any days off.

This is never the greatest situation to be in. The fact that you've banked that many hours probably means that you can't just take extended periods of time off due to the work that you do. Then you're expected to use vacation time, yet still get things done. I've been there. At my current job, I'm trying to be proactive about it. I've taken a few long weekends since I started. One's coming up right now, actually. Don't have to work until Wednesday after 11:30 today.

OP, I'd try to pick up someone else's hours. If you have to be there on the 4th, might as well make it a full shift. As for me? Paid holidays FTW!
