Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
I am 36 and honestly video games are a way of therapy for me. This year I have gone through a lot, and if weren't for the stress relief I have found playing games, don't know if I could have made it through.Comment

You're never too old plus video games help to keep your hand-eye coordination in balance and gives your mind something constructive to do. It's a lot better than some alternatives which have been mentioned in this thread already.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
According to the latest study, the average age of a gamer is 35. That's up from 34 a year ago. Better news for me is that I remain 2 years UNDER average, which means my wife can't give me crap for gaming!Comment

Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
When I was growing up, for whatever reason I never asked for a game console. We did have a pong game that my Dad built from Heathkit. He also had a Commodore 64 that we played some games on. I remember the magazines and typing the codes in. Most of my gaming as a kid though was in the arcades.
I didn't really get started till around 35 when I bought our first PC. I actually bought that for educational purposes, but my son and I quickly discovered PC gaming. A few years later he asked for an xbox for Christmas. Now at 49, between me and the kids its like video game central at my house.
My wife doesn't game, but she doesn't mind my hobby at all.Comment

Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
I guess I will play devil's advocate here. I say 25 - 30 years old is too old to play. By that time, you have adult responsibilities and more than likely a family that deserves your undivided attention.
That and to go along with the addictiion of video games. Let's get one thing straight here; there are THOUSANDS if not hundreds of thousands of horror stories out there with "WOW" widows and widowers. Games can be just as addictive as drugs and nicotine.
Not to mention, the lack of physical activity. Now, recently with the Kinect, Move and Wii this isn't quite as bad as it was becoming. But what's more fun... exercising or sitting down blowing things up on say, COD.
I say this from experience. Am I addicted to games... yea. I play them just about everyday, @ 3-4 hour intervals. Mind you, when my wife is home I leave it be, for the most part.
Are games as bad as drugs or alcohol? In short, yes. They can affect your health, social and mental lifestyles. But enjoyed in moderation, not so bad.
Besides, on a sports video game forum site, you think people are going to say how old is too old???EXPERIENCE MAYHEM FOOTBALLComment

So once you get a certain age should people not be able to browse the internet , watch your favorite TV shows, go golfing or fishing, play fantasy sports, read etc... because you know, we have adult responsibilities, and our families will be neglected if we do anything that we enjoy.Comment

Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
I'm only 21, so I don't know how much my opinion matters.
I don't think there is a such thing as being "too old". Video games are just another hobby. People grow up and have kids and have families, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to enjoy themselves anymore.
My parents played games as me and my sister (25 now) were growing up and they still play them today. They did an excellent job raising us and still play games to this day. My mom plays stuff on the computer and still plays the original NES they had when I was born. My dad plays the deer hunter and racing games on the PC.
My dad also gets out and hunts, fishes, and drag races and has been doing it for years. Video games are just another hobby. I don't see the significant difference between sitting on the couch wasting away time, while watching tv and sitting there playing games.Comment

So because I have a wife and kids I shouldn't enjoy my favorite hobby anymore? One can't take care of his responsibilities and still have time to game? Plenty of the people that have posted before said they play when the children are asleep or when they have "me time".

I didn't say everybody. And, like I said, I was playing devil's advocate there.EXPERIENCE MAYHEM FOOTBALLComment

Nobody here is going to advise that one play games to the point of stressing relationships, family ties, or careers.
I think you bring up a good point in moderation, which most here will state is important when balancing all factors in life.
I think age is irrelevant to your argument. I'm pretty sure there are more teenage kids out there who screw up their future, both career wise and health wise, by planting their rear in front of a TV/computer all day long while their lives pass them by.
But with that last point: if a kid wants to go into computers and play video games all day long while not having a girlfriend, who are we to tell him no?

Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?
That view was just an opinion on the other side of the spectrum. Video games are great. I'm 28 and don't plan on quitting any time soon.
However, a lot of ppl say video games aren't nearly as harmful as other stuff, I say nay-nay. If anything, they are just as harmful.
Or rather, THEY CAN be just as harmful.
