Re: Who is "too old to be playing video games"?

    A) The time I spend gaming (as a 33-year-old) is basically taken from the same pool of time that would otherwise be used on television or movies.

    B) I've literally been gaming my whole life (since I was around six or seven, anyway) so there's nothing in my experience that says I'll ever stop. So long as games continue to get better and better, and so long as the industry doesn't crash/become too expensive, I'm here for the long haul.

As I hit the "middle of middle age", I find myself dropping a level, which has maximized the fun factor by reducing the frustration...

Eventually, I may just have to go "coach mode" when my button mashing skills really deteriorate, but I don't see myself losing interest...

Gaming has come a loooong way in the short ten years I've been involved, and I'll bet they continue to find a way to peak my interest...

      As I often joke:

Thank goodness they didn't have this stuff when I was a kid, or I'd probably still be holed up in my parents basement...

Playing games is fun. I don't care who you are or how old you are. Playing games put fun into your life. I wouldn't care what anyone would say about me playing games on a daily bases. It' keeps me from going crazy alot of times around my house when there is nothing else to do.

Let's just say I'm somewhat past half-time and just spent over 2 hours in an online IP2IP game of MVP baseball with my brother who is about 7 years older than me. We just had one of the greatest games we've played and there is none the worse for wear.

Plus now my kids are getting into it, it's a great father/son activity as well.
You bet Extreme....there's a whole lot worse things a guy could be doing late at night. I'm also a late night gamer. And enjoy the heck out of it at 50+.

And your so right about the kids. My adult son, daughter, and myself...play EA's NHL game, often. Off-line, and on. We get hours of enjoyment, and have a blast together gaming. I wish my wonderful father [God rest his soul] and I, would have spent such time together.

I love this kind of thing. To me it's what gaming is all about.

Experiences in gaming can be very creative and enjoyable. I really don't understand the thought process that wants to continuously claim video games are only for kids. In fact there is often more thought and talent put into many published games than the outrageous programming that many adults let pour over them night after night.

My son is seven and we do all sorts of other things when he's home with me, I've found a few TV series I missed that I'm catching up on with my wife along with our normal movie nights, and since I got my Kindle, I've been blowing through several books.

I just don't have the time nor desire to put much time into videogames any more. I played two cases of L.A. Noire and am bored. Did the first movie of Lego Pirates and stopped. I play FIFA once a week, maybe The Show at the same rate...but otherwise, nothing. I figure things will spike for sure with Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, and maybe Skyrim. I'm just in a year plus long lull, though I know I'll ever play like I used to.
I've had trouble lately getting into games that in the past, I would have played nonstop. It's just annoying because I've tried getting into games like Demon Souls and Arkham Asylum but can't. I had been looking forward to this month all summer because I knew I'd have some extra time to play games. But alas, my interest has waned. I only turn 24 next week (full-time grad student) and luckily NCAA comes out tomorrow. Hopefully my interest spikes with NCAA.

I wouldn't say I'm "too old" for gaming, but I have seen my gaming habits change dramatically over the past couple of years. I can go a week or two and not even turn my Xbox on and when I do play, I usually only play for an hour or two. It seems like a game has to be great or really click with me for me to have a real urge to play it nonstop and take up every available minute I have to play it.

That's a good way to put it. As life goes on and you have other interests and responsibilities, you simply can't spend large amounts of time like maybe you did in the past with gaming. And now where you look at how so many games are out, it's almost overwhelming as to how to approach what to invest time in. Many quality games have been overlooked by me simply because I just can't give it the time I would need to to enjoy it. So, it's not that I'm too old but it's more that I'm more invested in other things.

Kathy Lee is SUPER weird, IMHO...

                              Video games = weird

                              Watching television = ok

I fail to see much of a difference between the two

It's funny you said that. I had a PS3 a few years ago. I bought it in March of '09 and by October of '09 I had sold it. Well this past March I wanted to grab another one and my wife was pretty stern on it not happening. Her reason was, I had one before and sold it and I should have kept it instead of being a FootballForver type of guy (her words not mine). She had a point, but I kept pushing the issue anyway.

She was off of work for Spring Break and was out with her mom one day, I went to my in-laws house after work and there it was, a PS3. She said the only reason she bought it for me was because of what her mom said. Her mom pretty much told her what you said. My mother in-law told me wife to buy the PS3 and that I could be asking to go out on the weekends to bars etc... be happy that I want to stay home and play his video games.
                                WOW! Now that's funny lol!
