Re: What is your free throw %

I only played competitive basketball in 9th grade, and I shot 0 for 1 from the free throw line... lol.

I took a basketball class in college and our instructor made us sink 10 free throws before class. It usually took me longer than most people. I'd say I probably shot around 35%.

My only real strength in basketball is that I hustle... lol. I can't shoot, dribble or pass. And I'm 5'6'' 180 and slow, so defending any other guard means they're blowing by me all game. In fact, I'd rather guard a big man because I know I can body him and try to stay in position in the paint to deny the pass. But if he gets the ball, it's pretty much over... lol.

Man, a lot of guys shooting at top-tier NBA %'s. 85+% is top 20-ish NBA status.

I'd be lucky to hit 6 or 7 of 10 with some practice...if I went out right now and shot, I'd probably hit 5 or 6. Never played consistantly enough to develop a smooth FT shot.

Re: What is your free throw %

I shot around 80% in high school, so I would probably add 5% more by myself with no fatigue and no pressure. So I would probably be somewhere in the mid 80's.

At least 80-85% if not better. I never played basketball for school or in a league, but whenever I played pickup games or went and shot around in the gym I could sink free throws with ease and anything mid range was a clean swoosh.

I've had a lot of "If I make this shot she'll say yes" moments and came out winning.

My free throw percentage in HS led the team. I was at about 85 percent. I played power forward so I got to the line quite a bit. Now, I would guess I'm about the same. I play quite a bit.

Edit -- just saw my stats in my high school yearbook. 83.8 percent from the line. 83/99 from the line during my senior year.

Yeah... I honed my shooting through ridiculous repetition, though. I shot probably 350+ jump shots/free throws a day during my high school years. When my friends were out partying in high school, I was usually in my backyard until 10 PM with the lights on, shooting hoops.

Basketball was by far my best sport and I had a few offers to play low-level D2 hoops but took a JC scholarship instead in order to stay close to home. Then, I quit a week after tryouts for no good reason at all.

You're right though, if everyone's legit, we have some good shooters here.

After reading this thread, I went to the basketball court in my backyard yesterday to see how I would do over 100 shots. The result... 64 out of 100. Not too great, but I've barely touched a basketball since the college days (about 10 years).

If nothing else this reminded me that I have a basketball court in my backyard. When we first moved in last fall, I was hoping the neighborhood kids would be playing during the summer so I could get back to playing a little ball. But, I rarely see anyone out there in the late afternoon/evening when I'm home. They're probably all wasting their lives playing videogames while drinking sugar-loaded energy drinks. Damn kids.

I think it throws off your rythem if you have to get your own rebounds. It makes you reset your shhotoing stance. I think you wouldve shot better if you had someone there with you.

BTW, my shot is ugly. Joakim Noah style.
