Re: What is your free throw %
I was thinking about this thread earlier today while I was shooting hoops with a buddy of mine at the gym on campus. I asked him what he thought his FT% is and he said he thought about 65-70%. I told him I thought mine was somewhere in the 80's which I posted earlier in the thread. Turns out we were both a bit off about how good we thought we were. We decided to shoot some FTs after we played a few games of 1 on 1. We didn't do percentages or anything, but he ended up hitting 22 in a row at one point and the most I hit was 3 in a row. Plus he beat me in 3 of the 4 games we played. I need to work on my shooting I guess...Patriots

Also keep in mind that we are not running up and down the court for 48 minutes either.PSN: buckeye02Comment

That's a good point. If I were a horrible shooter, I think I would have just skipped over this thread, ha.Comment

Re: What is your free throw %
Don't you guys think it's easier to shoot free throws when all you've done is stand there and get the rebound?
I'm really surprised at how much players run and still have these routines where the squat and use their legs in their form to still shoot a great percentage.Comment

Re: What is your free throw %
Sure, but in addition to what Buckeye said, none of us are shooting in a large arena with screaming fans waving their arms, signs, thundersticks, or whatever else. Not to mention in a game situation, guys are shooting one or two FTs at a time, not over & over hundreds of times in rhythm. Big difference.Comment

In HS my percentage sucked. I got to the line a lot but shot around 75% or below. Even in tournaments that I play in today my % takes about a 10% hit.Comment

Re: What is your free throw %
I keep my routine relatively simple. I remember a shot doctor being a guest at Steve Fisher's basketball camp back in like, '96. All he'd do was take three dribbles, bend the knees and fire. Simplicity. Perhaps the one defining characteristic of my free throws is that I do not put the "nail" in front of my right foot. Again like that shot doctor from Fisher's camp, I put the nail in the middle of my body. For whatever reason, it's always worked: practices, high school games in front of packed crowds, etc.Comment

Re: What is your free throw %
Back when I played in HS I was really streaky, in a bad way. In practice I would often just go 4/10 or 6/10 when doing drills at the end, but then I'd win a free throw shooting contest and make 36 in a row. I was definitely a rhythm FT shooter. That's probably why I only shot 40-60% throughout HS.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.
