Re: Family lineage
From my dad's side of the family: Primarily German, Austrian and Polish (though the Polish is on a technicality since my dad's side of the family lived in the area of Germany that became Poland, but moved to the US before it became Poland) with a little English thrown in. I'm related to the composer Franz Schubert fairly directly (he would have been a cousin of one of my great, great, great grandparents) and WW2 German General der Infanterie Albrecht Schubert fairly directly (I think I was told he was a second cousin of my grandfather).
From my mom's side of the family: Primarily Irish and Polish, with some German, English, Norwegian, and a few other random things thrown in. No one really famous on my mom's side of the family that I know of.Comment

Blackanese.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Father's side: All German
Mother's side: Scotish, Irish, and Russian.
My Mom's Dad's family were Jews who fled Russia during the Soviet Revolution..... How the son of two Germans and the daughter of a Russian Jew got together I have no idea lol.Comment

Re: Family lineage
I was going to start a new thread but this one seemed fine to bring back around for everyone to remember.
Digging into my father's side of the family tree recently, I discovered that many of my family members were good friends with the Booth family, as in John Wilkes Booth. However, they were more friendly with his brother Edwin.
Edwin, as it turns out, was actually a good man and saved Lincoln's son from serious injury just months before John would do what he did. My family members, along with most of the Booth family, had accosted John for his beliefs then stopped communicating him entirely some time before the assassination.
Some of the things I have found out are even more unbelievable, but there is actual documented proof, written-out lineages and tombstones to support them. One of my grandfathers was a Choctaw chief in the Mississippi region and there is a website talking about him. Apparently they sheltered many Choctaws to keep them from having to join the Trail of Tears.Comment

Re: Family lineage
I wonder how much those DNA tests cost, that tell you what percentage you are. The only thing that I know I am is English-American.T-BONE.

Re: Family lineage
I can't say how accurate any one test is over the other, but I picked up the Ancestry one a couple years ago on a Mother's Day sale because my mom's really into that stuff. I don't think I've ever been half as happy for anything as she was when I told her I did it, haha.
I think it updates twice a year as they get more data from more people taking tests so the percentages will end up changing, but I can't say I look at it enough to remember exact numbers. Estimating that I'm 1% more Irish or Italian doesn't tell me anything new, you know?Comment
