All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
My neighbor bought my family a picture frame with that poem on it and a picture of a dog when she died.

It's been a long time it seems to me, but we still have it hanging up on our wall.

That is a extremely sad story and I know what your going through and am extremely sorry for your loss.

Went through something like this about a year ago when my dog (of 5 years) randomly got sick one day and started vomiting everywhere. We thought she just ate something bad. Couple days later it hadn't stopped and my parents took her to the vet, I came back later that day and no dog was there. One of the worst days of my life.

Appreciate that you got to spend time and say your goodbyes even though they weren't on your terms as I wish I could get that chance.

Things will get better over time, I found it helps to get out of the house and find something else to do for a bit.

My bullmastiff is getting really old... I haven't had her for 12 years but it still hurts to think about losing her. She isn't like a person she doesn't just leave she is all ways there day after day and loves me for who I am. I know when I have a bad day I can just come home and she'll be there and brighten my day. Spent many hours playing with her and having a great time throwing her ball around and taking her out. Hang in there old girl

Man sorry to here about that bro. I had to take my mother dog to vet a little over a month ago to have her put done after 17 years of having her around. We had her from 3 months old to 17 years old. That is a long time. We miss her so dearly. It's hard. But things will get better as time moves on bro.

Just wanted to say thank you guys, again. I'm fine now. Time really does cure everything. Still miss her a lot, but at least every time I think about her now it's about all the great times we had. My parents are already thinking about getting a new pup, my mom wants another Basset but I think that'd remind me too much of Baylee. I don't know about getting the same breed again. It's really up to them though, I'm moving out soon. I'll probably get a dog of my own, although potty training will be hell for me. Maybe adopt one that's already potty trained. lol

That's good to hear, thanks for checking back in.

Like I said in my post earlier in this thread we lost our golden retriever about a month ago. We too are starting to think about another dog. I, like you couldn't get another golden. We are actually thinker about a boxer. In a few years we might get another golden but I couldn't get one right now. Hope everything goes well.

                    That's good.....it will help.
I didn't think I wanted another dog after Smokey died in April. I almost refused to think about it.
I started looking at kill shelter websites and one day while my wife was at Church I just saw my current puppy Nickie(she was Knickers on the shelter website) and she didn't look like my best girl Smokey at all. She was all fluff and black/tan/white/grey(all black on top...the legs the mix colors...hence Knickers)....but was a Bernese Mountain dog, while Smokey was an ALL black Flat Coated Retriever. "I'm good to go with her" I thought and set up the laptop with the pics of Nickie just waiting for the wife to see.
She bit right away and we were picking up Nickie before I knew it. It was really nice to have a puppy again and lo and behold....6 months later .....wouldn't you know it....Nickie looks so much like my girl Smokey it's scary. Same hair(the black on top) same face....and if you didn't see the legs you would swear you were looking at Smokes.(the personality is completely polar opposites!)....so much so I'm always correcting my wife as she is always calling her Smokey.
You know what though?....I'm good with that and getting a new best girl is really good for the healing process.
Give it as much time as you feel you need...and then don't hesitate when you think you're ready.
That's my long winded way of giving my .02 on it.

You will LOVE the boxer...absolutely the sweetest, loving breed (course I'm sure everyone here will sya that about their dog)! My parents had boxers when I was growing up and my wife and I have had ours for 5 years. Needless to say, we absolutely adore her.

Dogs are on loan to us from God and we need to cherish every single second of our lives with them.

EDIT: After I typed this, I had to go love on her!

My condolences, my mother just this past week put down my childhood cat (she was 19 this spring). They've had her since I was 7 and in 2nd grade.
