For those of you pre-ordering on amazon, how many days after release do you usually get the game?

I buy all my new games at K-Mart. The offer good deals on new releases. I can't remember the last time I didn't walk away with a coupon to use on a future purchase.

Only time I do business with Gamestop is when they offer 2 for 1 on used games or extra 50% trade in deals.

Damn I did not know they open all their games. It's been a while since I've shopped there but I can't remember if the seal was broken or not.

Maybe it's just the Gamestop I used to go to, but I distinctly remember the sales associates having no customer service skills. I walk in and no hi/hello, no attempt at building rapport with the customer, no 'can I help you find anything?', and then when I finally go to check out I'm bombarded with questions and sales pitches. It's like hey dumb *** I'm not going to buy the crap you're selling if you didn't take even a second to woo me first.

Besides that, I'm finding way better deals at KMart and Amazon, plus Amazon gives you pretty good value for trade ins. Gamestop's appeal has pretty much died for me now that they have a healthy amount of competitors.

I don't run into any of the problems you guys have in here at the Gamestop down the street. Never bought an unused open "new" game, if I say I'm not looking to preorder, they don't ask if I wanted too more than once, and if you say you're just looking around; they just say let them know if you need anything, and lastly; they know about the games they sell. Guess this must just not happen anywhere else. There is this one Gamestop near here that had a dick for a manager, but they are getting better now without him.

No need to pre-order games. Ive never seen a shortage in any game that i buy on release day.
Only time I seen a shortage was when I lived in Chicago and Northwest Indiana. Especially northwest Indiana.......there popular games would sell out by lunch time.

Probably because they persuade everybody to slap down $5 for a pre-order.

They absolutely don't open every new game, unless they're re-sealing them at the stores themselves (and that's probably not possible). I still shop there all the time and I don't think I've ever gotten something that wasn't sealed. If I did, I probably would have asked them about it - it's not like something like that would go unnoticed.

As for the upselling - well, I work alongside a retail area in my place of employment so I know the game, it doesn't bother me. They'll still ask me to upgrade to their premium powerup rewards thing sometimes, and I tell them the same thing every time - that it's not worth it to me because I don't trade enough or get enough new games to make a monthly fee worthwhile.

Never really had any issues with Gamestop. I use it mostly for 50% bonus trade-ins and B2G1s, I'll preorder the occasional game there if there's a bonus I'm interested in. I usually just get my new games from Wal-Mart, because it's open 24/7 for every game and is only 10 minutes away versus 30.

I have a GameStop right up the street from me and I've been shopping there since I moved to this area. All the employee's are really nice and I've never had problems with any of the merchandise I've bought there (no opening new games, etc.)

However, there's another one over by my old neighborhood on the other side of town which is the typical, ****ty GameStop.

                        Re: Gamestop in Trouble?

Amazon crushes GameStop when it comes to deals for new games. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game with all of the pre-order $10 and $20 credit deals I get.

Amazon's trade-in rates are usually higher than GameStop's as well. I've found the best bang for my buck usually is finding people on Craigslist to buy and sell used games though.

GameStop's business model is downright awful IMO. They have so many opportunities to provide services that I believe many gamers would find very valuable:

                        • Leagues & Tournaments: Why don't they do more of this? Gives them a chance to interact with customers and build loyalty.

                        • Used Game Rentals: Think of all of the inventory they have of used games. Why not charge people a small fee to be able to rent used games? Might be a nice low-cost alternative to GameFly.

                        • PS3 Trophies/X360 Achievements Reward Program: Allow players to receive discounts, prizes or other rewards for reaching new levels for PS3 Trophies or XBox 360 Achievements. People like getting free stuff, so they'll play more games to earn more trophies/achievement points. Guess where they'll be buying these games if they have to come in to claim their prizes? Yup, GameStop. More business.

                          Re: Gamestop in Trouble?

Working as a GameStop manager on a southern part of Texas, I have to tell you before I took the job, I read alot of stuff people say about on Forums about GS.

It's true, alot of the stuff they do/ we do are for personal benefit. Basically, yes we do open 1 copy of every new game. (Atleast this is how my store does it) so that way we can have one on the shelf. GameStop does not supply me with sleeves or I would gladly put those empty cases on the floor.

I do make sure my employee's and ME, tell them "Hey, this is a copy that was on the floor, it was not played but I used it for display purposes only." Usually they understand, sometimes they don't.

I mean, I have to sell what's on the wall and I would rather have a case up there and them bring the case and me get them a new one from the drawer than give them one that is opened.

Being a GAMER first and foremost, I myself love to open the package. Working there, I now know I am usually the one who has to take the one with the case and no packaging.

Also, to clear this checking out, renting games. In a email about a year ago, we as a company where told. DO NOT CHECK OUT NEW GAMES.

We cannot and should not check out new games. It's just stupid, you check out a new game and actually playing it.
Thats used. I know when I go to conference this will be something big I do talk about. NO STORES SHOULD DO THIS.

Working at GameStop its not that we try to get over on people, it's that in order to keep the job. You have to have good numbers and be a sales man.

When you have a powerUP rewards card as soon as we scan it, we can see the last 7 purchases you made.

What I told my employee's to do was to look at that and see if that want to reserve any game that is similar or a sequel to something we just bought.

                          Say you have

                          HALO 3
                          Halo ODST
                          Halo Reach
                          Dynasty Warriors
                          Brink

Well of courses shooters and Halo 4, and Halo Combat Evolved HD collection would be the next thing we would love to get a reserve for you..

This all comes from the top, my employee's dont get reserves than they don't get hours. Not because of me. Because of the district manager.

He only wants people to work that get numbers.

I really do love my job, and its probably because I know alot of the people that come in that know I am NOT trying to get over on them.

Reserves from GameStop help us, and therefore they will help you cause it makes your relationship with the GameStop employee that much stronger.

If you have any questions or how promo's and stuff like that work.

I am more than happy to answer. I hope you all understand GameStop is a business trying to make money. They succeed in that market and that's what its about.

I am not angry for people who don't want to shop there. That's your choice, and its great to have choices.

                          .

Hey GameSTOPw00t I have a question for you. How come GameStop has such a low trade in value for games? I called earlier today to check on a few trade prices and one was Madden 10 on PS3. I know the game is an older version but it's less than 2 yrs old since Madden 12 isn't even out yet. The dude told me 25 cents....LOL....I mean I know they would sell it for a lot more than that!

Is this trade in value of games a nationwide thing or does it vary store to store?

Lol, sports games are just very bad to trade in, honestly. I LOVE LOVE sports games, but its like we are selling Madden 11 right now for 9.99 and that has been for the last 2 months, so it would be like 7.99 pre owned for Madden 10. 5.49 with your card.

Sports games degrade as soon as we sell it. I don't know why that is, it just is.

I really recommend you all IF you are going to trade in than to trade in when we have a added 50% and than use the powerUP card to get that extra 10% so you get 60% extra for your trade.

There are ways to trade right. You just have to find the right months.

And it is store wide that's just how it is. Sorry man. lol.

My guess is Gamestop probably already has a boatload of Madden 10s, so they may not even sell your copy that they buy for .25.

Trade in values are low, but they don't profit off every trade. I'll trade/sell where I get the most. Sometimes it is Gamestop.

I traded in my Madden 10 at Gamestop in February (6 months after release) and they gave me $40 toward Madden 11. Then I didn't even buy Madden 11 - I was able to put that $40 on another game.
