So... Do you still got it?

It seems that I'm posting these types of threads once every year at the least...

So at work today, I went into the gym and was watching some basketball. For those of you who don't know, I work in a prison. I am in close proximity with inmates and I am ALWAYS talking junk to them. I always tell them how on the basketball court, no one on the entire compound has a better jump shot than me. They always laugh at me and tell me that I am garbage. I even had one inmate tell me that I probably "play like Kurt Rambis out there... Knee pads and all."

The worst part is, I watch these dudes play and while some of them are very good, most of them are all talk. I asked my Lieutenant tonight if I could jump in on a quick game just to show these cats what's up, and that I wasn't all talk - even in full uniform. He told me no, but that I could shoot around if I wanted. So, I am in the gym watching these guys, and most of them are talking junk to me during the game. One dude scores, and he stares me down as if I am the dude he just scored on.

So after the game, I singled out this one black dude named Joe. He is the dude that told me I probably wore knee pads and he always told that I was garbage. His team won the game. During the game, the ball went out of bounds and I grabbed it. No joke, I pulled up from 25 feet, on the baseline, and splashed the jumper. The whole gym went nuts. When the game was over, I looked at all of the inmates in the stands, and I said, "You guys say I'm all talk, do you think inmate Joe would be willing to find out if that's true?"

They all started yelling and my other officer buddies told me to sit down. No, I said, Joe and I would play a quick game of PIG. Joe accepted and continued to laugh at me. I said, "Take the first shot." He missed a jumper and I grabbed the ball, and said, "Mistake, Joe. I doubt you get another shot of your own."

I took a three from about 25 feet and knocked it down. He made it. The gym was loud. The next shot, I shot a free throw and made it. He missed. I told Joe, "If we could play one-on-one, I'd show your pals that how weak you really are." I didn't smile, and he said, "Okay, okay..."

To make a long story short, I made six shots in a row and sent his *** packing (sorry for the language, mods). It was beautiful. Full uniform and equipment, and I shot this dude out of the gym. I was getting booed by most of the inmates, but some of them were really surprised that I put this dude in his place. He didn't even come close to getting a letter on me.

I guess I still got it. At the end of the game, the best part was a buddy of mine grabbed the speaker and said, "The good guys win again. Thanks for coming."

With that, I went outside and stood movement as the inmates went back to their units. I actually surprised myself because I haven't shot a ball in about two months, but it was beautiful.

Maybe the Lieutenant will let Joe and I play one-on-one next time.

I'm gonna be honest I saw the thread title and thought it was gonna be an entirely different topic lol, but great story.

No I never had it in the 1st place, I'm streaky with my 3s and I can't make a layup in a game to save my life. Part of that is I never practiced much, never really tried to score in games, and well 5'8" so I just get destroyed going to the rim since I have no real moves lol. I just distribute and play lockdown D, I'm the hustle player lol

I can completely relate to this. A bunch of middle school kids play roller hockey on the court behind my house. Every time I see them playing, I think to myself, "Man, I could totally dominate those kids!"

Well of course you could they're freaking children, though I'll bet it would feel good to check a few into the boards.

I had something for a while but it wasn't a lot. Now I might have a bit but it's going fast.

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

A month or so ago my GF and I went to the batting cages with her brother and niece. I never played organized baseball growing up (just pickup with friends). I hadn't swung a bat in at least 5 years. We were in the slow pitch softball one (because eventually we want to get on a team) and I was just lighting it up. Even her bro was impressed, and he plays on a team regularly.

It wasn't much, but felt awesome to know that there's still a pretty good athlete in this body...

I'm afraid I never had it in the first place, so there is nothing to lose!

Re: So... Do you still got it?

I like to think I still have it.

I'm 26 and in decent shape. I play short stop and pitch for an adult baseball team while batting cleanup. I lead the team in average, home runs, and RBI's. My ERA is probably under one and I threw a no hitter where I struck out 14 of 16 guys (walked 1 guy)

I am the only white guy on the department basketball team and run with guys who are damn good. Our center is 6'8 and played D-1 ball.

I will compete for the starting QB job next spring in a full contact nationwide league.

I love sports and love competing. I would love to say I still have it but I'm not quite there. If I were to dedicate more time and get in better shape I'll be at the top of my game.

That's the plan going forward. I love still being able to play competitive sports after college.

Apostle, that's a cool story but man I wouldn't want to play those guys. I just don't trust them at all and you never know what could happen in a game.

Oh, and how can I do this?

I always thought wow pro athletes retire at 30, 35 etc... well now I am 32 and still lift weights and work hard etc.... but, man try to hang with a 23 year old when your 32 is possible but, man it is hard as heck. To answer your question yes I still have it but, I feel it for 3 days after
                            Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.
