Re: Worst sporting injury you've ever had?

I had a few injuries my senior year of high school football...

Opening game of the year I was running down on punt coverage and was about to make the tackle when some jackass clipped me (he got called for it). It wasn't the hit that hurt me, though. When I fell to the ground, he stepped on my hand. I stayed in and played the next two defensive plays one-handed, but when the coach came out on the field for a timeout, he saw me clutching my hand and made me go to the sideline. I got it taped up and played the rest of the game. We had practice the next day because we played so terribly, and coach said if you don't show up, don't bother coming back. Well, my mom was insistent that I get an x-ray that morning, so I was late for practice, but the coach understood. He even let me sit out of drills.

The second to last game of the year I went up to block an extra point using the long-snapper to jump up higher (I figured out that if you come from the side of the center, the officials don't notice... lol). I got on top of all the offensive linemen and one of my teammates came and pushed the pile. I fell from like 6 feet up strait onto my shoulder. It was some of the worst pain I'd ever felt. The trainer didn't have to come on the field or anything, but my teammates had to get me up and walk me to the sideline. The doctor checked me out on the sideline and figured out I didn't have a broken collarbone (thank goodness), but we found out later it was a grade 1 AC sprain. The next night, I was drinking with a buddy and we were able to tell when to stop based on the fact that I could raise my hand above my head... lol. I played the final game of the season with some extra padding on my shoulder.

Playing pick-up football my freshman year of college I went in for a tackle and I can remember hitting the ball-carrier, then staring up my teammates as I lay flat on my back... lol. I knocked myself out.

Playing ball hockey and receiving a high stick to my nose and bleeding all over the place like a stuck pig. Luckily there was no break.

Sprained my AC joint when my arm got caught doing a swim move in a football game my junior year. It's the same injury Sam Bradford had his senior. He got surgery for it, I didn't and my shoulder still hurts to this day. I should probably get something done soon.

I needed tommy john surgery for my arm after pitching for nearly my whole life (never got it, just quit throwing things lol).

I also broke each limb, one every three years for 12 years.

The last break was during the championship basketball game, when I jumped up and came down sideways on my ankle pulling the muscle out which pulled out the tendon which pulled out a piece of the bone. That was the worst break I had.

Inguinal hernia from a lifetime of baseball (though it is not bad enough for surgery, and never acts up anymore)... and an arthroscopic on a knee to remove fragments.

Torn acl. Didn't think it was that painful, but the recovery time sucked, and I'm still not as quick as I was, at least in some movements, but this all happened after I was done playing competitively, so I don't care too much.

Re: Worst sporting injury you've ever had?

I have broken both arms/wrists. Both were from no contact except between me and the ground. My right arm looked disgusting. It literally looked like an S in the forearm. The left arm looked different, but nothing terrible, but it turned out to be a wrist and hand growth plate fracture.

I also broke my right shin play wrestling when it hit a brick fireplace straight on.

I also just last year broke my right ankle in a baseball game and had surgery the night of the first football game and was in a cast the entire season.

And where I played baseball nearly my whole life, my right shoulder gets some bad aches in it every single day. I may have overused it like some of you all.

Re: Worst sporting injury you've ever had?

Never went to the hospital for an injury, but I screwed up my knee election day 2008.

There's a picture of the tackle (sandlot football) where my knee is bent one way while my leg is the other. It's not super gruesome as my knee is on the ground but I'm turned, but you can see the pain on my face. I'm basically yelping in pain.

Now, the knee basically pops out. Kind of like if you ever sleep on your jaw wrong or something and you have to kind of push it back and it cracks back into place. Damn, that sounds terrible.

But my knee was fine the last 2 years after giving me problems a lot the year after the injury (I didn't even realize how bad it was until months later, either). Then this past week, wasn't paying attention and turned it while getting out of bed and had to slowly put it back into place. It's a terrible, horrible feeling. Not quite pain but a sickening feeling like it's just floating in there.

                    I self diagnosed myself with a torn/severely sprain MCL/PCL and/or torn meniscus.

I do have health insurance, but I can't afford to be out of commission. I'm only 21, so I think I can live with this for a while until I'm stable financially to go get surgery on it.

I do worry that I'll get like, an infection or a blood clot or something. I'm still alive 3 years after the fact so I'm hoping nothing ever comes up. If I notice any changes, that'll probably be my first guess, though.

Re: Worst sporting injury you've ever had?

I've been pretty lucky. Mine was a stress fracture that 1st appeared my senior year of track. I don't think it ever healed correctly because by the end of baseball season it was hurting again.

Went off to college to run track and it really started hurting 2 weeks into indoor season. They sent me to a doctor and it was in the same spot as my previous on only bigger. Red-shirted that season and was in a walking boot for a few weeks and rehabbed in a swimming pool and exercise bike. That sucked walking around on campus with.

I was involved in football, basketball, baseball, golf, and track in high school at some point. I was lucky that was the worst thing I ever got besides a dislocated finger during a football game.

                            Torn ACL in HS football.

Broken orbital bone in a baseball summer league. Fielded a ball with my face at third.

Those would tie for worst I think.

I strained the muscles in my rib cage after crashing into the wall while playing baseball in HS.

That injury sucked. Sometimes I would feel fine, and sometimes I would have issues breathing.
