    I am doing the projector thing for my back yard. Going to have movie night and such with our friends. Ideally football as well but not sure how well it would show in the day.

      Sunday Night Football outside on a projector with friends sounds like heaven.

      As far as our home buying quest, we've identified the agent we're going to hire. We'll need a couple more months of savings before I feel comfortable proceeding. Considering how much of a down payment we'll have, I don't want to deplete our savings just to get in a house. I really do want to get into one though lol. Tired of renting.

        Too much Light definitely makes the picture faded and washed out

        Best part is they show on any wall and give you a gigantic picture or smaller concentrated if you want

        You guys should have a blast with it

              Would really be interested in knowing where there are 11,000 sqft homes in Victorville for 150k. Been there many times, and while its a pigsty compared to Sandiego , LA, or Vegas...its a much better area than what actually surrounds it. Dated a girl there once and their home was about 350k, and by no means was anywhere near 11k sqft.

                Either way home values have dropped alot out that way

                  Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

                  I'm really close to putting my house on the market... With two boys, we're just running out of room in the starter home we bought in 2009. We got the first time home buyer's credit so next month, we have officially met that three year requirement and can sell.

                  I'll have some equity built up due to the fact that I was able to put 20K down on the principle of the loan when we refinanced a couple of years ago. I will use that for a nice down payment on the next house we buy.

                  With interest rates where they are, I can get twice the house and only step up $200 or so a month on my mortgage payment. It's pretty tough to beat that.

                    You gotta remember the inland empire was the epicenter of the housing crunch.

                    Saying it's a better area than what surrounds it isn't saying much that entire region is a wasteland.

                      Had to ax a couple of agents first though.. what a nightmare the 2nd one ended up being.

                      Wound up with a 4 bedroom 2 bath, and there is also a bonus room not permitted about 8x 14 im going to use as a game room.

                      I'll get to the other house stuff later..but I wanted to ask you guys to help me with some ideas for it

                      I was thinking 2 50 inch tv's side by side that could be either used as a dual screen or one for doing whatever I wanted for example, tv on one while gaming on the other or xbox on one, ps3 on the other

                      Or... one huge 60-65 inch tv for everything

                      What do you guys think?
                      IMO, go with a 50" LED or plasma and a 1080p projector with drop down screen.

                      Similar to this, but with the tv on a tv stand (or centrally wall mounted):

                      <img src=http://images3.blu-ray.com/htgallery/90666.jpg>

                      <img src=http://images2.blu-ray.com/htgallery/90672.jpg>

                      tv for regular viewing and PJ for movies and gaming

                        Although that room is a tad bit bigger... it looks similar to that as far as the long room but with a solid wall at the end ... its exactly like what im working with.

                        Thats not a bad idea... how did you mount the projector screen?

                          I was stationed out at Ft. Irwin in that are for a long time. Victorville was actually the closest city we could go to that had any semblence of a nightlife, much less the only shopping area within 150 miles round trip...well, guess you could count Lenwood Outlets on the way out there.

                          I know Apple Valley, Pheland, Hesperia, Lenwood, Barstow, etc are all much worse areas until you at least get down the mountain toward Ontario or San Bernadino. All in all, that place sucks all around, cant think of a good place out there come to think of it.

                            Im obviously bias but the High Desert (Hesperia, Oak Hills, Apple Valley) really isn't that bad although Victorville is starting to become really rundown. Anyways, I am an hour away from 2 different ski resorts, hour or two from the beach and 2 hours from Vegas. Not to mention this is a great area to off-road/ride dirt bikes ect.

                              Looking to buy a house around this time next year (before the start of another school year) and will probably do something similar. Already have the 3LCD projector, but wouldn't want to use it for everything, thus the need of a flat panel display as well.

                              I sent him a PM. Not sure if that was housing around the screen was a DIY project or custom install.

                              Here are some basic pics of installing an electric or manual pull down PJ screen directly into the ceiling: http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-HD-100-16...ojector+screen

                                Got it.... we've been looking to do something similar at work (pull down screen) for our company wide conference calls... as of right now they rent a screen that sits on detachable legs thats about 8 feet high and just as wide

                                Without taking up room I see this one is just attached to the ceiling... im definitely thinking about it...

                                I know its overkill to do dual monitors whether its being used for two different things or just one, but again it was just an idea....whatever goes, I definitely want a cool experience whether playing games or watching them... seeing something on a 100 inch screen in your house on the wall is nuts though
