New house is great! A few little things but nothing horrible. Kitchen sink faucet had a leak inside the hardware, so we just replaced it instead of trying to find the o-ring failure on a non-reliable American Standard faucet (searching online lead me to find people don't like them much). Wasn't too bad to fix.

Cox cable had trouble getting great signals in the spots we wanted, but the guy eventually figured it out.

Amazing having more space, we love how the house is, the neighborhood (trees, nice neighbors, more like midwest vs. typical Phoenix area)...Unpacking is slow, but we can do that at our own pace at least

Congrats! Tough time of the year to move, but glad to hear things are going well.

Just got the Sensi Wifi Thermostat (installed one, have to do the other one soon)...100 bucks on sale at Amazon vs what Nest or Ecobee cost. Nice to be able to control it on an app and also have Alexa change the temp.

Just a heads up for those of you interested in thermostats. I usually just program them and forget it, the app makes setting custom schedules great! Don't really need the other fancy features, and since I was buying two (two AC units) price starts to matter.

Here's some info I never thought I'd have to share. My home was broken into last August, the guy has been caught , out of the $8000.00 we lost we recovered $800.00 and got $5300.00 from our home owners insurance.

Now to the reason for this post. After the break in I went to Best Buy and picked up a 4 camera home security system. Each camera is 1080p , indoor/outdoor, and has night vision. Comes with a 1TB DVR and you can set it up to record any way you desire. Each camera can be set up individually.
you can also set up the system to send you emails whenever a camera detects motion and you can view the cameras in real time on an app on your phone or computer.

This really gave my wife and I piece of mind after the break in. The 4 camera system cost $230.00 made by Swann. I've lived in this neighborhood my entire life and never thought this would happen. Might be worth checking out if you living in an area with a lot of heroin addicts. The addict that hit us also hit 7 other houses in the area.

Our house was broken into a few years ago and we did the exact same thing. The officer that showed up to take our report told us the #1 thing you can do as a deterrent is to install cameras.

How do you wire the power up to it...that's my main thought, seems like it'd be such a pain for me to install and plug in the cameras. Are the cameras wireless to the base? so you don't need a cable there at least?

They have wireless systems but I'm not sure how the camera's get power. I went with the wired system. I have an older home so snaking the wires inside the wall is a real pain so for the front of the house I ran them up the corner of the wall and across the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling. Then drilled through the wall to the outside and mounted the camera's. I hid the wires along the top of the wall behind some crown molding. You can still see them running up the corner but it's not a big deal.

For the back of the house I ran the wires down thought the floor and across the basement ceiling then back up through the floor at the rear of the house. The front camera's are - 2 out side, one aimed at the drive way which also covers all the way up our street. The other is aimed at the front walk way which also covers the street in the opposite direction. The third camera is in the front entry way aim at the front door. The back camera is inside in the back mud room aimed at the siding back door. My yard is fenced in so the back door is hard to get to.

I used a video on you tube to get everything up and running. It was fairly easy.

LMAO this...they help stupid me find the ceiling light cover for the bathroom shower light. I fix lots of things I had no idea how to fix. Youtube helps a lot!

We're looking to put a fence up in our backyard but I'm trying to avoid paying a surveyor as much as I can. Nobody around me on either side knows exactly where the property line is. The cost of the surveryor is ~1250 which I'm really trying to avoid. I need advice -- am i going to have to bite the bullet? Is there a way I convince the neighbors to split it with me?

I should add that neither neighbor currently has a fence but we're putting one up to keep our toddler and future toddler in the backyard (we get bears, deer, etc. in our yard all the time).

Get your property mapped. It'll be a benefit in the long-run and will save you from the possibility of a very costly mistake.

This is just good general type advice IMO. The thing I learned relatively early on was don't be penny-wise and pound foolish. Just pay whatever up-front to do the best/most thorough job for whatever you need, and it'll likely be worth it in the long run. I've done too much cheaping out or doing a shoddy job on my own before realizing it wasn't worth it and I should have just paid someone to do it right up front.

The trick, of course, is finding the someone who actually will "do it right"....
