Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

Thats alot of money to shell out monthly on electricity when solar should reduce it.

    The heck?

Kitchen sink faucet pull out hose developed a hole so it leaked back into the sink cabinet. Planned on fixing it a couple days later so i taped it up for the meantime. Not a permanent fix but good enough until i was able to get to it.

If that wasn't enough i was watching arrow with the wife around 1130pm or so a day later and thought i heard one of the kids in the kitchen.

My youngest had just washed dishes and went to bed but i thought she had went back in there because i heard running water again.

...but its around midnight now so i stop by on the way to the restroom and the kitchen is completely dark. The running water i heard wasn't her.

I check the pull out and it's fine but i still hear water on.

I look at the floor and it's partially flooded.

I run outside and turn off the main water valve. Come back inside and look under the sink and i see the cold water hose busted too.

It splashed water everywhere in the cabinet and flooded a corner of the kitchen before i caught it.

Wife and I are getting water up with small towels at midnight and I just shut the sink cold water valve off and the main one back on so the entire house wouldn't be without water.

Kitchen had hot water only for a few days. Freaking home warranty hooked us up with a plumbing company that didn't give us an appointment for about 3 days later.

When the guy comes he has no faucet and wasn't able to contact the home warranty company successfully to confirm they covered it.

He basically leaves without doing anything, just confirmed what i already knew.

I called them myself, and turns out they dont cover the sink issue..... ugh at this point.

Screw it, I'll figure it out myself, so i pulled up a couple youtube videos on how to install Moen pull out faucets.

Pulled mine out yesterday and went to home depot, picked up another one and installed it myself.

No issues at all and everything working as normal. As soon as i finished i opened a choir singing hallelujah on YouTube and just stood still for a moment with the water running behind me lol.

    I celebrate all victories.

I'm not sure what his electricity bill is but 10 panels isn't enough to carry a full load. The system I'm looking at has 22 panels to generate about 700 kwh/month.

Sure but that still seems like alot of money to shell out total using panels.

Unless his bill was near 200 bucks a month before.

          Our bill was normally $180.

I would keep tomatoes out of a pallet, though. If you can only plant in containers/boxes then I think planting them by themselves is your best bet because they can get huge (obviously depending on the type) and they suck water anyway.
I've also heard that you have to make sure to get the right type of pallet for food plants. Some get treated with chemicals (or something) so there's like food grade pallets or something similar.

Good point. I would hope they adhere to similar standards of disposal that prevents reusing railroad ties, though. I guess it depends on the chemicals used.

Nah, theyre some pretty strong wood cabinets.

It helped that i didn't let the water sit there though.

May sound crazy but it was good that it happened when we were home.

I thought I was gonna have to get all up in that plumbing recently when my kitchen sink got clogged....no way to get anything in there to snake it without undoing something...

Luckily I tried using my plunger in the one side, and a stopper in the other half and was able to get everything pushed through. I'll pay plumbers when I have to, but i've had people come out before for that stuff at prior places and it's just so simple to fix...hate paying that 80 bucks or whatever for someone to come out

For real it's no fun giving a guy money just to show up. I'll only do it if it means me not screwing something up worse though.

I snaked my bathroom before and got a bunch of black sludge out but still needed a plumber.

Went out and got one of those diy snakes but it wasnt long enough to clean out the clog.

What type of sink stoppers do you guys use?

We had some black stopper ring that fills the whole thing for when it has to hold water to soak. That one in the right sink (the disposal side) let me plunge the left sink (side that leads to drain) and not just push everything back to the disposal sink. We also have some sort of stopper that lets water through but keeps gunk out that we use on the non-disposal side

Talked to our mortgage lady and we should be in really good shape to get the type of house we want (250k-300k max) and have the down payment covered by the sale of our current house. Should cover more than that in reality, but nice to know that we have a good cushion in figuring this out!

Will be nice to upgrade, right now we have 3 bedrooms and one primary family room. Go to 4 bedrooms and add on a loft, added living room type stuff, etc. It'll be much better for the kids.

Hard part will be packing everything up and actually figuring out how to move lol. Along with hoping we can sell and buy and get that all timed properly.

Moving is the absolute worst. The only shining light is you have incentive to throw a lot of stuff away that would normally just sit there collecting dust.

We moved twice last year. Once to the in-laws for a month and then to our house which was delayed due to some bad weather.

My wife was pregnant and on bedrest while my 3yr old was constantly getting in the way. She meant well but man it was exhausting!
