Yeah I can see why you guys are getting into the home ownership market, would be an awesome time to jump in by the looks of it though I imagine banks are WAY more cautious when it comes to lending now than what they were prior to this crash.
How much would you guys pay for an average 3 or 4 bedroom house at the moment?
what I'm trying for now is a 3 and 3 for 230k
Please lord do it lol

Yeah sorry it was a bit vague. I just did a bit of search and it appears the average house price in the US is $199k.
The average U.S. home price for transactions during November 2011 was $199,000 – the fifth consecutive month of price decreases and a price level not seen since October 2002, according to the latest home price index (HPI) released by Jacksonville, Fla.-based Lender Processing Services (LPS). The partial data available for December suggests further price declines […]
fwiw the average house price in Australia is 459k and our dollar is pretty much equal to yours.
Stuff can get high in cali
Ive seen an 8 bedroom home near my current apt for that average though...but certain areas thats a good 5 bedroom home...more or less space depending on the city and area

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Ended up with 3.5 Jonesy
Im currently in escrow right now, finally.
Had to ax a couple of agents first though.. what a nightmare the 2nd one ended up being.
Wound up with a 4 bedroom 2 bath, and there is also a bonus room not permitted about 8x 14 im going to use as a game room.
I'll get to the other house stuff later..but I wanted to ask you guys to help me with some ideas for it
I was thinking 2 50 inch tv's side by side that could be either used as a dual screen or one for doing whatever I wanted for example, tv on one while gaming on the other or xbox on one, ps3 on the other
Or... one huge 60-65 inch tv for everything
What do you guys think?Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Thanks man
Man thats the truth. They got a USDA loan (yeah, only given if in farm or rural type areas).. well they didnt get that one but moved to Adelanto but they wont be getting a visit from me way out there
Anyway, any reason why you'd skip the dual screens for the one big one, BK?Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Why have 2 big screens, when you can have just one really big one ?
OR
If you feeling froggy, install a big HD screen in there with an HD projector and put some surround sound speakers throughout and make it your dedicated movie watching room.Comment

Congrats.
One screen.
Can't see how someone can justify 100 inches of screen...regardless of their use.
Spend wisely.

The two probably wouldn't cost much more of not the same as the 60 inch...
Why do it? Ever see multi monitor set up in a game room before?
Just different but at this stage its just a an idea.
Anyhow I do have a projector that would go straight to the wall but not sure I want to use this thing for a few reasons
Here's a pic. ..bb is there to show the size. Shows roughly 100 inches max

Actually I've never seen it before...unless it was like MTV Cribs or something
But more power to you. If it brings enjoyment...go for it.Comment

Me and my wife are going to be purchasing within the next year. Luckily my mother in law is a real estate agent, my father in law does home inspections as a side business and both of her uncles do tiling and cabinet work respectively so I married into a very helpful family
That being said I've been very tight with money and about opening new lines of credit. I bought a new car last year and paid it off within 3 months to help boost my credit a little bit.
I'm excited about beginning the process. I know it's daunting and can be heartbreaking at times, but I can't imagine something feeling more fulfilling than finally owning your own home.
