Man is that your backyard? Everytime I see one of your pics i go AW LAWD IT LOOKS LIKE A MAGAZINE! lol

I can see that design, digging up the dirt around the pool, also making trenches deep enough for the light poles, installing them, maybe concrete or sand to keep them stationary, then adding the rubber mulch or whatever that is you have around it to cover everything. Takes alot of work.

I'd definitely get a professional involved man. Its a big purchase, one of the biggest you'll make in your life, so you want to make sure its done right.

Any advice for weeds in areas with flowers/plants (so I can't use roundup)? Thanks!

Been to home depot lately? They have weed killing sprays and even think about adding some mulch or lava rock with that weed stopping base layer cover that you lay on the ground. It will look nice and it'll do the job.

I'll look again...most stuff kills grass and everything else too, I'll look more carefully.

I have mulch there, probably need to add a bit more, but once the weeds are there they'll grow through the mulch. Have to nuke them from orbit now. It's insane how much they grow in a month!

I just bought some 12x12 pavers and had to create a walkway from my back door to the backyard walkway because some genius thought it was a good idea to have grass in front of the door.

Digging is NOT fun at all..lol. I hated it, then had to find somewhere to put all that dirt.

Yeah...I have to fix some pavers in rock we have, they're no longer set in the dirt so they shift around a bit...not looking forward to digging in that rock hard ground.

My irrigation hoses (5/8") are probably very old...I've dug up and fixed 3 leaks with patch connections (cut out leak and patch with connector), but another leak just pops up further down the line. Trying to figure out if it's worth my time digging or quoting out to a landscaper to fix lol

Either way it's too hot right now for me. I'm outside 45 mins cutting my lawn and I almost have heat stroke from AZ heat....

Thanks! The lights are wired into the pool system box so they are on a timer to come on at night, works real nice. And you're right, the wires are buried underneath the rock borders and come up through the concrete that the light poles and speakers are on.

Speaking of the rock border, I'm not sure if I'll keep it next year. I've got the weed protection sheet underneath them, but still lots of weeds come up and the sheet rips too and is visible in some places. I have to stay on the Round-up with them. I think next year I might just let the grass extend to the concrete and put some flowers out there instead.

Kev, I find the weed matting does not last and always develops weeds through it. I recently switched from weed matting this year to a thick plastic sheeting like this

Nothing has got through it this year, interested to see how long it holds out.

Is that for an area without other plants, or can you do that with plants? I'd think I'd need something that lets water through, though I guess i could have my drip stuff set up under the plastic so you just cut holes for the plants...hmmm, next spring will be fun trying new things!

Good deal, maybe I'll try that if I decide to keep the rocks. Either way I guess I'll have to pick up the rocks!

Well I use this in my garden, but in Kevin situation it does not need to let water through to water plants.

Now as far as my garden, I cut decent size triangles around the base of each plant and all have been strong. Enough water from rain and watering find its way around the base of the plant where the root system is.

It has its limitations for sure but one thing I can say it is very study and durable. Hell the weed matting if I caught it with the weed eater it would tear and open up a hole instantly, this plastic sheeting I can edge right into it with the weed eater and have yet to have it tear.

Just to update on my situation...Still waiting on the appraisal to come through. If the house appraises for less than we originally offered then the seller will have to debate whether or not to lower the price.

Trying to get the money for closing costs together and that has been stressful. I definitely did not expect things to move as quickly as they have but it will all be worth it in order to have our own house.
