Because they are handling it with negligence. And proves they are not prepared for situations such as this, and thus they (people) should NOT have them in captivity.

I am sorry, I have been working with animal conservation for over 15 years. Check my one and ONLY blog on here for one of the most endangered species on this planet.

Proper places that can harbor such animals (zoos/conservatories), have proper equipment and doses on hand. They have the equipment preset with proper dosages for each animal, and staff on hand for such "what ifs"... the ill prepared nature of this, is a two part problem.

          1) Showing their lack of preparation, expertise, and equipment ready, they should not allow the harboring of them in the first place. (The state allows this, thus they should be prepared, especially towns that allow it.)

          2) It is an ever growing reaction of how we are now in our society. And it is only going to get worse. Pepper spraying harmless hippie chicks at Occupy Wallstreet sitting on their tapestries is the direction our fear induced society is headed. And with "people in power" with such fears themselves... it will only get uglier.

It is almost like allowing you to build wooden houses without having proper fire fighter training or even a fire fighting company in the town/district.

I agree with everything you said. I only posted that so people would know what started it all. They saw that one became angry, so unfortunately they decided that all of them were dangerous.

I was shocked when Jack Hanna backed up the sheriffs office in this ordeal.

Yeah, I understand, was not personal, just adding to the conversation.

I am not shocked, Hanna is a loon. He used to be great, but seems to be slipping off, and has the "better off dead" mentality sometimes, which I do not agree with.

This whole situation disgusts me. I am a huge animal lover, and they not only had a rough condition to deal with, now they have a taste of freedom and are hunted down... and some of these "hunters" are lousy shots since they have no experience with safari animals. So it only leads to more senseless suffering.

I would rather have Ted Nugent doing the business.

In the perfect world, sure. In Central Ohio where they are probably struggling to have funding to keep a minimal police staff on hand, it's a pipe dream. They can't just snap their fingers and have training and all proper equipment to put a freaking cheetah or tiger to sleep. All that stuff costs money they don't have. It isn't part of a "societal" problem, it's doing the best for all parties involved with the situation they are given.

And before we go blaming the lawmakers for allowing people to keep them in captivity, remember the general mood of the politics in the area. They would much rather have a few animals put down than have the big bad government meddle in their affairs.

And even worse, after all was said and done, they took the "They're just dead animals" and moved them with a bulldozer. Granted some of the animals were massive, but they could have at least found a more respectful means of moving/disposing of the bodies.

Animals were put down that could have killed innocent people.

It was the best move giving the circumstances.

I feel bad for all the animals that were killed, but most especially for the Bengal Tiger. They're already endangered and now there's 18 less of them.

I've only read various stories on this but couldn't they get the zoo involved in this? They would/should have the proper equipment to be able to tranquilize those animals and put them in a more fitting environment. Seeing all those pictures of the animals killed is saddening.

Um, that is why it should be illegal in the first place. (harboring of exotic animals)

I am sorry, but the state is ignorant and stupid for allowing people to have them.

We could go back and forth on this for days. The majority of the people that voted the government into place wouldn't have it any other way (up until now when I'm sure the reactionaries will scream for a law change). Hindsight is always 20/20. I think the sheriffs did a great job given the circumstances. No people were hurt and a few of the animals were taken alive.

But by the time they got there, who knows where the animals would've went.

I don't agree with killing all of them, but they were forced into a snap decision.

Where would they have found a more respectful means of moving the bodies? I'm sure Zainsville is not equipped with that equipment and a bulldozer was the only adequate equipment on hand to move the animals.

This is a terrible situation but I think the Sheriff's department took the correct action.

I don't condone the killing of animals at all, but what are you supposed to do when they could easily kill a handful of humans in the snap of a finger? I agree they should be prepared to take them down in a non-lethal manner, but when you're live in the situation, you don't always think rationally. I know that's the case with me.
