    Re: Best Championship Performances

Reggie Jackson, of course, would describe Pujols' Game 3 performance in one word: inefficient.

Game 6, 1977 World Series (Yankees leading Dodgers 3-2):

Reggie's 1st PA: 4-pitch BB vs Burt Hooten (scores on Chris Chambliss' HR)
    Reggie's 2nd PA: 1st-pitch 2-run HR vs Burt Hooten
    Reggie's 3rd PA: 1st-pitch 2-run HR vs Elias Sosa
Reggie's 4th PA: 1st-pitch solo HR vs Charlie Hough

Reggie also hit a 1st-pitch homer off of Don Sutton in his last AB of Game 5.

Reggie's last 5 plate appearances in the 1977 World Series:

8 pitches total (4 balls, 4 home runs off 4 different pitchers)

Beltre's 3 HR performance vs. the Rays in the Divisional series was much more impressive to me because he was the difference in a 4-3 win.

I was at the game and don't get me wrong Pujols was damn good, but in a close game he wouldn't have faced Mike Gonzalez or Darren Oliver (who accounted for 2 of his home runs).

The one that comes to mind for me is Bob Gibson in the 1967 World Series.

Baseball wise that's as good as it gets from a position player in the WS

Some under the radar performances, Josh Beckett Game 6 complete game with 9ks on 3 days rest to seal the series against Yankees in '03. Also Brees was as efficient as it gets in the '09 SB, don't has stats on me

Here's a bizzare one...Timmy Smith rushing for 204 yards and 2 TD's in Super Bowl XXII...the guy was basically never heard from again after that.

Without a doubt the most underrated one is Walt Frazier's Game 7 of the NBA Finals in 1970.

36 points, 19 assists, 7 rebounds. 12-17 FG, 12-12 FT. Against a Laker team with West, Chamberlain and Baylor.

Could you imagine if MJ, Kobe, LeBron, etc ever put up those numbers in Game 7 of the Finals? It'd be considered the best single-game performance in Finals history. But Clyde didn't even win the MVP because of course that was the night Reed limped out of the locker room.

                            Diiiiirty performance right there.

I guess the NBA was all about theatrics even then.

Tommie Frazier - 1996 Fiesta Bowl vs Florida

                              200 yards rushing, 100 yards passing, and 3 TD's

Not to mention one of college football's most memorable runs.
