    Re: Energy in the Morning

When I had noon classes, I would never wake up before 11:30. I think it'd be easier for me to break into Fort Knox than get energy in the morning.

I agree with the "stay away from 5HE/Monster" statement...pulled an all-nighter because I had an entrance exam at 7 AM and work from 2-9 and was afraid I would oversleep. Drank an extra large cappuccino and a 5 Hour Energy to compensate and the ambulance had to come to my work because I thought I was having a heart attack.

Because no one in the thread wants to know how to have energy in the morning. Good call, Jonesy.

Jamba juice sells these energy drinks now that are basically just juice with a lot of caffeine in them. They have caffeine and sugar, so they aren't the best thing in the world for you, but probably a better option than monster or something, and for me they give a good amount of energy without making you feel jittery.

I've posted about this in the weight loss forum but this is what worked for me:

Like I have said before I have never been a morning person and tried a few times unsuccessfully to become one but now I have managed to crack it there's no going back. If you are thinking of doing it maybe give it a test run for a month because the first week or two can be tough but it really does get easier after that and now I doubt I even need the alarm (but i still use it anyway just in case).

A few very quick tips I'd give you that have helped me when switching to morning training:

            1. Set your alarm and put it on the other side of the bedroom. If it's right next to you it's too easy just to say **** it and turn it off and go back to bed.

            2. Get up at the same time even on the weekends - this was huge for me and a big reason why I think it worked this time. You really need to permanently adjust your body clock so a big sleep in on the weekend would throw me out of whack again.

            3. Get your gear (shoes, training clothes etc) ready the night before. Remove obstacles because at first it's easy to look for excuses why not to do it.

            4. (personal preference) I take a pre-workout supp or a caffeine tablet as soon as I wake up. This way I couldn't go back to sleep even if I wanted to

            5. Do a bit of warm up cardio (5-10 mins) to get the blood flowing. You might be a bit cold and stiff at first and your CNS needs some waking up.

Using this I have gone from someone who was really out of shape, fat and lazy and could sleep in til lunchtime and was never a morning person to someone who gets up at 4.30am every day to do 45 mins of weight lifting and 45 mins of cardio 5/6 times per week so if I can do it anyone can.

I have to be at work at 330 and I work in a gym. Its way too easy to wake up at the last minute and rush. The days I get up earlier and take my time, I feel so much better throughout the day. Starting your day right makes a big difference.

Maybe mix together a power smoothie in the morning to drink as you are traveling to the gym.

Fruits, Oats, Water/Non-Dairy Milk as the liquid base. With some greens thrown in there. This helps me out tremendously. Light snack that is fuel powered.

Also, once I get up, I drink 8 OZ of water. This helps get my motor running. Helps that metabolic system out quite lovely.

But as others have said 5 am is 5 am, nobody wants that. It is all mental.

                    Haha the OP got banned,

Anyway, I read this and I do the exact same thing. I can only fit in 30 minutes of gym time though 3 days a week and the other days I do 1 hour and 20 min of cardio and 35 min in the weight room.

I started early this year and so far so good. I feel great and while I haven't really lost alot of weight (20 pounds in 10 months haha), I've shrunk 4 belt hole sizes (need to buy a new one as I'm on my last one, and it's now loose) and my wedding ring needs to be resized. (I had fat Cheffy sausage fingers)

But yeah up at 420am every morning.

Great work Matt! Weight is irrelevant but that 4 belt hole sizes is freaking awesome! It really is a great way to start the day once you get used to it.

I had to be at work by 6am this morning so I just set a new personal best by being up at 3.30 am for my workout. I am away for 4 days now with work so I had to get it in before I left. Was kinda weird finishing my session by 4.45am and sun wasn't even up yet.

I read somewhere that a good way to wake yourself up in the morning is by taking a shower and alternating from hot to cold. I haven't tried it but it's one of those stored for future use things I have in my memory bank.

Switching workouts to the morning is a great way to get yourself going. I've done this for certain periods of time and it makes you feel great. I'm like a recovering addict though when it comes to being a night owl. All it takes is once or twice and I fall off the wagon.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with where I'm at right now. For me it's all or nothing. I either have to be up at 420 everyday and in the gym or else I won't get into a rythm and I'll just drop off.

330am? Forget it. That's too dam early.

I did however skip today, woke up with a minor headache.

Trust me I won't be making a habit of 3.30am starts, that's getting too early for me but it was just once off. Besides I'd have to be in bed by 8-9pm to get a decent sleep and that is my gaming time.
