You're saying that's why you can't bulk up? If you want to be good man you have to get in the gym and go lift even if you've ran a few miles. Besides, nothing feels better than finishing your last set after a really long day and know you're going to come out of it stronger.

Sorry man but it's time to just own up and do what you've admitted you already need to do. Don't rationalize to yourself why you aren't doing things you've said you should be doing.

If you start a thread asking people for advice when you yourself know what the problem is it probably isn't a good sign. There's an old Nike phrase that's very fitting here.

Good luck, just do what you need to do and you'll be fine.

Start lifting now because if you wait until your in college to start lifting your gonna be sore all the time. Might as well get use to lifting now. Also since your 6'6 an only 180 I picture a stick figure. I'm sure if a bigger defender wanted to he could rough you up out there in the court an seeing how you don't try hard in practice ima assume getting toughest up would get to you an throw you off your game. So get bigger that way you can handle anything physically thrown your way.

I've definitely picked up my game in the last week. There's 4 centers on the team. Our starting center tore something in his knee. So we don't know when he's coming back.

First tournament is next week, Tuesday.

Coach told me if our center is out, then he is coming straight for me.
Although I'm excited, this doesn't mean I stop playing hard.

                    Hey man, I'm a 5'10 165lb ,JR, Combo G.

To me man, you gotta love something if you going to work hard and get better at it. If you don't love basketball stop wasting your time man, like me i LOVE basketball and work my a** off everyday getting better. I lift 6 days a week and work on my game everyday. I play on one of the best club team in AZ and worked hard to get PT on varsity this year. You have no idea how gifted you are being that tall and having potential man, dont waste it! I would do anything to be at your height! Youll regret it later, I promise. Just work your a** off and get yourself a free education to college

                      Re: Highschool Basketball Help

Not trying to come off as a jerk or *** but take it from someone who has been in your shoes and your coaches. Don't waste what God gave you, you will end up regretting it forever. First of all, as others have said, you have to have that drive and passion. Take nothing for granted and remember that somewhere, someone is outworking you today. You have to be THAT person who is outworking everyone else. It's got to be a year round investment. When I played and coached, we still lifted during the season in both football and basketball. Get a trainer, lifting coach, or whatever you have that's both available and affordable. I was lucky enough to have a good coach on my HS staff that knew how and what to work out with during the season and the offseason. Go to your coach and ask him what you can do to improve your game and then do it. Just because you play the post now, learn how to handle the ball and shoot with both hands. You could be like me and still grow another couple of inches your first year of college(I was 6'4 210 and wound up 6'6 225-230 during FR yr). Making the pros is not going to be easy but there are 300+ D1 schools and even more at the lower levels. Use what's been given to you to at least get that education. Then use your time as a collegiate athlete to build your contacts and start networking. I've seen plenty of players not make the pros but have great job and career opportunities afforded to them from just using their collegiate playing experience. You have an opportunity but it's not going to just fall in your lap, YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT.

Let me tell you a story...actually let me not. Just know these words are coming from experience, do not squander the time/talents you have now. If you do, I can promise you will regret it in the future. If you work hard and give it all choice can, even if you don't make it to the level you aspire to, you can at least know you gave it your all. Looking back and thinking "what if" isn't near as fun as looking back and being happy with your effort. The memories are better after working hard too. Listen to your coaches and lead by example in practice/school and outside of that as well.

                          Went from playing scrub minutes

Too starting 11 times, playing the whole game every time I started.

Offseason is finally here. Taking a brake for a week. Next Monday is the start of my quest to put on 25 pounds.

Thanks for the great advice guys

                                Re: Highschool Basketball Help

Damn 6'6" 180? I weigh that much and i'm 5'9", but that's from football and the way i'm built is similar to a typical running back. I put on 30lbs my sophomore yr of HS from January-April or so, with your height/weight i'm sure you can reach your goal of 25.

I never had that problem in practice in football cause I knew I had to impress coaches or someone to get playing time, I enjoyed the game, and well if you did you probably got hurt eventually.

When it comes to practice just treat it like a game, stay focused and give it your all. Games are won in practice, as well as playing time especially in HS.

There are those that want it and then those that are just content with being on a HS team. Don't be one of those content guy, always strive for more and for perfection even tho perfection is most likely unattainable.

Good to see you made some progress as I just realized this is an older thread.
