My parents' rule was that you couldn't get out of school unless you were throwing up.

Which led to the discovery that I can throw up on command (not sticking fingers in my mouth, I can just throw up if I really put my mind to it).

    Useful skill. Very useful.

I never missed much school as a kid, but I had my best friends mom on my checkout list, so if she ever came to get him, I could leave too. She would check him out to go to town. We were really good friends, from kindergarten, so my mom trusted her. Funny thing is, we still hang out almost every weekend.. almost 19 years later.

I didn't miss many days in 9th grade, unless my sister didn't want to go, because I rode with her.

I started driving in 10th grade and that ****ed everything up, lol..

I missed so many days my senior year. I had no classes to take, I just had to get my diploma and one credit..

Other then when I had chicken pox in the 2nd grade, I never missed a day of school ever from Kindergarden through out college. But then again I was highly motivated to get the hell out of the ghetto.

I missed school all the time, except during HS football season because I had to attend class to play. I'd make up stuff half the time or just tell my mom I didn't want to go, typically she didn't care as long as I didn't miss too much.

Senior Year I typically didn't miss much tho as I had 2 AP classes and I already got out 2 hours early, the final semester I used all my absences tho(but everyone did)

I remember not missing much during middle school because there was a low number of absence allowed so I was very careful about it. If I had little to none absences my parents would let me miss during the last week of school because I had good grades.
High school was another thing, I missed a lot specially when there were classes that were three hours straight and we had to do exercises instead of a theorical class, I did not do well during those times though.

I'd miss about about 10-15 days a year mainly due to getting sick or having to go to doctor's appointments downtown or a family vacation that was ill timed. Other than that I rarely missed school.

Last day of my vacation. I'm stuck in the ER. My wife decided a knee to the tailbone would be an excellant way to end a vacation.

I missed about 10 days to two weeks of school every year for various illnesses. My Aunt's rule was that if you weren't puking or didn't have diarrhea you could go to school.

I'd miss school pretty often. I had asthma as a kid, so I'd get a bad cold and it'd leave me winded walking down a hallway. So I'd miss a week at a time because of that. And then it got better in high school, so I'd stay home a few times when I didn't feel like going (but never during football or track season).

As far as work, for a long time, I'd call out about once a month. Then I got promoted, and I think I called out three times in that year (twice when I had a 104 degree fever, and once to break up with the girlfriend). I've only called out once to my current job, but I just earned sick pay, and you better believe I'll use it. I work in food, though. If I go to work sick, it's kinda gross.

Me too. Fortunately I don't handle much food anymore. On the rare occasion I am sick I typically work a short day and stay away from production areas.
