So there was a shooting in my neighborhood today.

Its a relatively quiet middle-class neighborhood, but due to some homeowners who have rented their property out to Section-8 renters, there's an undesirable element.

So here's the lowdown...

About 5:30pm I am walking to our neighborhood pool w/ my 4yr old son. I notice that there are 3 teenagers walking past us and one is yelling to his cellphone "LEAVE ME ALONE!" I thought it was kind of weird, but proceeded to the pool.

About a half hour from that, the same individual is running to the pool yelling "I've been shot, call the cops". Now aside from the 2 lifeguards there is one other dude in the water, and I look @ him and say is this a joke.

Then the kid who said he was shot, puts his hand over the fence to show how bloody it is. I proceed to get out of there w/ my 4 yr old, and the other pool patron uses his towell to wrap this kids blood soaked hand.

I told the kid to lift his shirt, and could see about 8 or 9 buckshot fragments in his skin...likely a lot more.

My 4 yr old son is witnessing all of this, then begins to hear the sirens, and tells me he is scared

I take him home, tell the wife, who said she heard some loud bangs, and then go back to give the cops my story.

I wanted to make it known that I saw one of the victims in an angry conversation on his phone, and that they should trace his most recent calls because it seemed like coincidence that he was telling someone to leave him alone and 30 minutes later is shot.

Of the 3 kids which were together one other was hit too, his older brother said that he had to be taken to Fairfax Hospital over concerns of their being buckshot close to his spine.

Wow.. That's some crazy stuff. Hope the kid will recover fine. It's weird hearing stuff like that happening so close to home.

Over here in the UK, the most you get is muggings and a maybe a couple of stab wounds, but still it it's a rare occurrence depending on where you live. Parts of London are riddled with crime and gang wars, but nothing on the scale you guys get over there. Here it's just a bunch of idiots in hoodies acting tough.

Sounds like a normal day here in Rochester unfortunately. I live in the suburbs of Rochester and I've still had like 3 or 4 kids that I went to school with/played basketball with get killed in the past couple years. And one of the kids I played with ended up getting arrested for murder, and another got killed for some beef he had with a crack dealer. I always feel so awkward when everyone's saying it's such a tragedy that so and so got killed when he was a crack dealer or it's a tragedy that so and so is going to jail when he killed someone.

Well, it's good that someone like you, JBH3, was there. You probably stayed more calm then most, given your military background (if I'm not mistaken). I'm lucky to have never been around violence like that and I hope I never have to. Lucky because I live near a pretty ****ty place, but I try to keep my nose clean.

@Zuckerberg... Same here. It's hard to feel sympathetic when someone plays with fire and gets burnt.

You definitely handled that a lot better than I would. It's great that you were there to provide some info and be level headed in that situation there.

I've never been associated with any kind of gun violence in my life so it's a completely foreign experience for me. I'm sure your kid was a bit freaked out for quite a while though.

I am in a similar neighborhood and the person across the street rented their house to section 8

A few months after they moved in my gf calls me up asking why there is a SWAT team on our street. The "man" of the house was trafficking heroin and had a terrible criminal history.
