The first hipster thing I can say is that when everyone else was reading Harry Potter, I was reading A Storm of Swords, now all the HP fans are trying to tell me A Song of Ice and Fire is a great series.Support Local Sports

Re: Off Topic 2012
If anything book/show/movie annoyed me right now, it'd be The Hunger Games at this point. At least you heard about Game of Thrones. Hunger Games comes out with a movie, and everyone goes crazy even though they've never mentioned it (most people I've seen haven't even acknowledged picking up one of the books) but now its everywhere.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
Except Game of Thrones is actually a well-written book, whereas the others (at least Tebow) have been overblown in terms of quality.
Game of Thrones is awesome, but it really takes the first book to get acquainted with the world and characters. The show is pretty good, too.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
You people are seriously arguing that it's worse to have a team do really well and then let you down? Try starting every season with little to no hope, and still rooting for them as hard as you can. If you don't think that's true then you've either never experienced it, or are fairweather fans. The only team I really care about hasn't been to the playoffs in 27 years, and we made the second most money in the Major Leagues last year, but are still stuck. I would be beyond ecstatic with just a playoff birth. Championship or bust, my ***. Y'all are pissing me off.
As far as making the second most money in the league. Not hard to do when you have the lowest payroll in MLB.Comment

Awwwhh poor JJ
I mean it's not like any of your team got embarrassed in a BCS title game, lose in heart breaking fashion with a trip to the NFCCG on the line, get punished for a Bounty system, have a star QB without a long term deal, a team with no ownership that absolutely sucks, etc.

All of my pro teams are hot garbage except the Flyers who always find a way to not win a Stanley Cup.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
I have four favorite teams. (I like the Blackhawks but their losses don't affect me, so I don't count them)
The Cubs, Bears, and Illini basketball and football haven't won a championship since I've been alive. The Cubs have gone to the playoffs a few times but only to be swept in the divisional round or Bartman'd. The Bears have been to the playoffs a few times, but lost in their only Super Bowl. Illini basketball teams have given me one heartbreaking NC loss and a bunch of underachieving seasons. Football has been relatively awful for the better part of my life, with one exception (Rose bowl loss).
The Bulls, the only team I am emotionally attached to that has won a championship, won last when I was 4-years old. I couldn't even dribble a basketball at that age. We also had a great run last year which ended with a loss to Miami's nWo. Again, though. No celebratable (not actually a word) championships.
So yeah. Stop your whinin'. Because my situation isn't even bad, but it's much worse than your 4 NCs or whatever in the past ~7 years.Last edited by mKoz26; 03-23-2012, 06:44 PM.Bears | Bulls | Cubs | Illinois | #Team3Some

Re: Off Topic 2012
Pretty much imagine Skyrim without creature people. The series is basically set in a medieval styled period with knights, kings and queens, but also mixes in some other cultures as well. The plot is essentially an epic political thriller as alliances, "double agents", and twists are pretty much thrown down in a gauntlet like pace. I will say that it pretty much takes reading the first book to really get your head into the world. The second book has been blowing through the pages.

Re: Off Topic 2012
Just watch the first episode of GoT on HBO on Demand and you'll be hooked within 15 minutes. I haven't met a single person who hasn't liked it.
Season 2 is coming up in 9 days
I've read most of the first book, but personally I'm more of a TV guy. I'd rather get the shock from watching it rather that reading it. I did like the book though because it went into more detail about what the characters were thinking and such. I'll probably read the second book once the second season is over with.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague
