From what I can gather from the little I have read, it's about a mythical land, and royal families trying to gain/keep the throne for themselves. Remember, I'm about 50 pages into the book only, so that's all the synopsis I can give you for right now.

I will say that it is written in a different dialog and is kind of difficult to read at first, at least it was for me...could be because I just did read Baseball Prospectus as well...

            Re: Off Topic 2012

I've experienced both having favorite teams that suck or are just okay enough to not get a high pick or a playoff spot for a decade plus (Buffalo Bills), a team that didn't make the playoffs for a decade and generally were mostly below average but not totally awful (Cincinnati Reds), and then a team that's been consistently pretty damn good but can't seem to make it all the way (Philadelphia Flyers). I only have an allegiance towards the New Orleans Hornets and Boston College Eagles for fandom purposes, but even those teams haven't done much of significance.

The common denominator... no championships for these guys. And for the Bills & Flyers, ominous droughts.

But the Flyers are pretty good this year, as is usual, and the Reds have given me hope the past few years with a playoff appearance. Even the Bills made a big splash by signing Williams and becoming semi-relevant this year (before disappearing back into irrelevancy). So things are on the upturn.

I just wonder what it feels like to be able to watch your team win a championship.

OK, so if we're going to talk about how our sports teams have fared during our lifetime.

-Steelers: 2-2 in Super Bowls, perennial playoff contender
-Penguins: 3-1 in Stanley Cup, currently one of the top teams in the league.
-Pirates: 3 NL East titles but lost in the NLCS 3 times. 19 straight losing seasons since.
-Pitt football: Perennial underachievers. Sucked through most of the 90's 2 Big East Conference co-championships, 1 BCS bowl, 4-6 bowl record since I've been watching football.
-Pitt Basketball, irrelevent until around 2000 then became dominant winning several Big East regular season and tournament championships. Only made it past the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tourney once. Major down year this year.
Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
                  Penguins : 1990/91, 1991/92, 2008/09, 20015/16, 2016/17
                  Pirates : 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979
                  Panthers (FB): 1915, 1916, 1918, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1976
                  Panthers (MBB): 1927/28, 1929/30

The plot is essentially an epic political thriller as alliances, "double agents", and twists are pretty much thrown down in a gauntlet like pace. I will say that it pretty much takes reading the first book to really get your head into the world. The second book has been blowing through the pages.

I'll never understand why people get mad at cops when they get pulled over for going something like 30+ mph over the speed limit.

They're stupid and misplacing their anger if so, if they're going to be mad at anyone it ought to be themselves.

I got a speeding ticket two weeks ago and I was pissed, but only with myself for being dumb enough to get one where I did. I should've known better and being late for something wasn't a valid excuse.

                            So there's that.

The Pats - Three Super Bowls and five total SB appearances in the last 11 years. One of the best run teams in sports today.

Bruins - Won the Stanley Cup last season. Been big disappointments before that in my lifetime. Used to be awesome before I was born.

Celtics - Were rather miserable while I was growing up watching, but had a few good seasons and then a few real bad ones for them. Then the Big Three and Rondo happened an yeah.

Red Sox - Worst collapse last year but two WS wins in the last decAde and are perennial contenders.

                              **** this city sucks.
