Re: Off Topic 2012
cool story bro/tl;dr inbound:
SpoilerWent to my Alma Mater's game last night. Not only was it against the team the football gods just wouldn't let us beat (0-8 all time, and twice we had a late go-ahead touchdown called back because of an inadvertent whistle. Twice.) it was the last game in the stadium, ever before they move into the new swanky, bigger stadium at the new school with turf and concourses and private boxes. Anyway they finally won, and the students do this thing where they go on the field after the game to congratulate the players and take part in the alma mater. One jackass was climbing on the goal post and the cop said something about it, the principal said "I don't care, it's not like we're going to need it. But then they just HAD to shut off the light towers one by one when everybody started filing out.
Damn it got a little dusty. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Off Topic 2012
I try to get back to my school once a year for a game. I feel completely out of touch and old, though and I'm only 4 1/2 few years removed from HS.
I'll go and actually sit down in the stands and it feels weird not being in the student section. There's something special about HS football during late fall, much like College Football.. it's just a lot of fun.
I do have a few cousins who play still, so there is some incentive to go.
There are plenty of Friday nights where I pass by the school on the way home and I just don't feel like stopping.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
I remember senior year we beat one of our two rivals for the first time in like 25 years (and shut them out, no less)...once the time ran out it was a nuthouse. The whole student section was hopping the rail and storming the field. We made it to the state semifinal that year so the whole season was pretty fun, but that was definitely the highlight.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
So my senior year we got called up to Triple A after winning the AA Championship the year before so we were scheduled to play St Anthony's HS in Long Island. For those unaware St Anthony's was on a streak of like 7 straight championships in the highest level of our league. So the coaches were gassing up the game telling us this was our time to shine yadda yadda.
So we walk in the school and they give us their girl's basketball lockerroom to get dressed which at the time we thought was an insult...that room was balling. Our lookerroom in Brooklyn was nothing compared. So after leaving and seeing the 500+ school championships plaques mounted all over the hallway walls we were intimidated as hell.
So after halftime we were down 0-3, which for this mismatch was astonishing as they were usually up by 28 by the first quarter. So I guess rightfully so, the coaches were excited, the Defense was gassed, but our O was trash. Endgame was something around 0-27. So after the game their Coach came into our lockerroom and congratulated us for giving them the biggest competition they had seen in a decade.
In retrospect St Anthony's is full of dicks.
And this has been In Retrospect with Kingkilla, see you next time.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
I'm so glad I didn't go to a high school with crappy sports teams
IIRC our football team went 8-4, 4-6, 6-5, and 13-2 in the years I was there. The only "major" sport we weren't good at was basketball, but that's more attributed to us having a terrible coach we had no respect for than lack of talent.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2012
Oh we're talking about our high school sports teams?
I'm proud to say I went to my HS during it's "golden age". 2 trips to the title game in football (and they went the year after I graduated). 1 trip to Breslin for basketball, and 2 straight conference titles in track (something we hadn't done since my track coach got there). Add in the fact we sent 3 players to Michigan, and had another person become a HBCU All-American at TE (the usual had the talent, not the grades case), and my high school sports life was as good as you could ask.
I'm just disappointed that all that went to hell the second the c/o 2010 left.
EDIT: And after seeing the post that started the convo, quick thought in my mind.
Watson, are you gonna try to stay working with a college when your internship ends (You're an intern right) or work with your high school?Last edited by justblaze09; 10-27-2012, 11:58 AM.Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Michigan

Re: Off Topic 2012
I really haven't given it that much thought yet. There's a possibility I'm transferring to LSU, but that's so far in the future I haven't even given it that much thought yet when it comes to interning or working. I don't know what I can do with my HS that can help me get a job when I graduate. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: Off Topic 2012
My HS was good at everything but football. Our bball teams constantly made playoffs, baseball was always a contender(several guys drafted in MLB/college recruits), swimming I think dominated, women's flag team won state, etc.
I was in varsity for 2 years we probably won 3-4 games total. About 10 though my entire 4 years I think, never even competitive in our "rivalry" with down the street school( a school that produces D1 talent on the regular, like Matt Elam/Nick O'leary)Last edited by Chrisksaint; 10-27-2012, 02:23 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
