    Re: Off Topic 2012

    This may be a rant.

But who the hell came up with the 40 hour workweek?

Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but how many times in an office setting, have you literally worked all 40 hours in a week and not gotten everything done. I can maybe count one time a year where I was literally maxed out on work, and that's the end of the year auditing.

Normal times during the year, I probably do a good 20 hours of work and the rest is spent browsing online, talking to co-workers on the phone about irrelevant work **** to kill time, updating my fantasy roster and other random things.

Maybe my job is just less busy than others, but I still feel like 20 hours of work is still a lot of work in a week. Imagine 20 hours of studying for a class in a week? Or 20 hours of writing papers. But when we get into the workforce, that's supposed to be half assed? I don't get it lol

Oh, its gonna be one of those days?
      Spoiler

      re: 40 hours
Tax season is easily 40 hours plus.

The other nine months of the year "billable" time is typically 60-75% of my work hours and that's probably an over-estimate.

It came out of factory work. People in factories actually work all 40 hours because of the nature of the assembly line.

It doesn't make much sense for a lot of office jobs, though.

          That's what I figured.

Those guys definitely slave all 40 hours.

Us pencil pushers, it really makes no sense.

          @Fresh

Yeah end of the year is really the only hectic time. After that. Cruise control.

I could probably work 60 hours a week and not get everything done. We are substantially understaffed.

You tell your Boss to only pay you for 20 hours of work.

Metaphorically dodged a bullet. I remember telling the HR/administrative assistant at work she was cute at the Holiday party when I was blitzed, but she doesn't seem to remember (or doesn't want to talk about it). I was dreading today for that conversation, but it seems like I didn't need to.

No idea why I felt so embarrassed about it when later in the night I... uh... didn't retain my dinner. Which sucks, because it was amazing sushi! Oh well.

I put in 84 hours in the last 7 days. 3 of those were 16 hour shifts. I worked them all straight. I'm off tomorrow. There is still work that needs to be done. However, screw it. I'm leaving early today. But yeah, I wish I could have a 40 hour work week right about now, ha-ha.
