Computer Information Systems with a focus on network management and design

I wish the stereotypes were true. People think I am really smart and will be making 6 figures out of school lol.

Double majoring in Finance and Economics and Strategy (econ and strat. is it's own major) with a math minor. At least that is my plan as of now, it could change.

                    A political science major.

                    It's worthless, career-wise.

I think it would be really cool to get a job with the Cardinals HOF or Baseball HOF.

Maybe with a SM degree I could take over the head of my town's parks and rec dept and create an adult baseball league. Hooah!
I was a double major in Marketing and Sports Management back in 2006 and had similar aspirations. Now I'm working as a staffing recruiter

The thing that I wish someone had pointed out to me at the time (or at least been realistic about job prospects) was how few jobs there really are in that field. I applied multiple times at various levels at all the major sports franchises here in St. Louis and actually worked an internship for the old St. Louis Steamers. Needless to say, the job openings for recent college grads are very small to nonexistent. Like most industries, you run into the chicken/egg problem of needing experience. Plus, with so few openings, it's all about who you know, and unfortunately for me, I didn't know the right people.

In the end though, while it would be awesome working for my favorite sports team, my internship made me realize these people work insane hours during the season--especially when you are on the bottom rung. I want to be able to spend time with my wife and friends, so in the end I think it worked out for me.

I don't want to discourage you, because obviously sports teams do hire people, but I needed a job (and $$$) right out of college to keep up with my plans/goals, and I couldn't afford to sit around waiting for that opportunity.

Like I said, I wish someone had been realistic with me along the way about how many St. Louisans graduate every year with the same degrees and send a resume to the Cardinals...we're talking in the hundreds every year...and to not have unrealistic expectations. I hope you get that opportunity, because a part of me would still be jealous at how sweet that job could be (like October of last year ).

Thanks a ton for sharing your experiences as this is exactly why I posted in the thread. I'm just looking for tons of advice.

Luckily for me, I'm not tied down to the St. Louis area, I'm just going to LU. I feel as though I'm in a position to be able to work with any team any where in the country.

(Just imagine all the applicants for the Rams, Blues, and Cards from just the LU grads.)
