I get that the situation is not ideal, but I don't have a problem with crumpling everything up and hanging on to it for a few minutes until I find a place to put it.

As others have said, I think a lot of it comes more from disrespect, lack of pride and the way people were raised then inconvenience. I don't see it too much of a reach to ask most people to do the same. I think any one with basic moral values and respect would do the same, which leads me to believe that those that just throw their stuff wherever they want are in fact just flat out inconsiderate.
Oh, I agree. I know if I'm walking and eating then I'm holding onto that garbage until I find a garbage can. I can't ever in good conscience just drop garbage on the floor. The worst I've done is leave a bottle on the subway platform and I've only had to do that because the station I was in had zero garbage cans. I walked around and couldn't find any (very weird situation) and I rationalized it by placing it by the corner where it wouldn't be anyone's way.

It still bothered me that I had to do it.

Lack of home training, that is what it is. I remember growing up in Chicago as a child my dad use to make me go outside everyday and pick up every piece of trash that was thrown on the ground in the front of the house and in the alley behind the house.

Try having to do that as a child everyday growing up, you wouldn't litter. Hell I even had to sweep the sidewalks as a child. Because of that I never did want to litter because I knew what a damn pain it was to pick that crap up.

Where I live now, people don't litter. But then again that might have to do with the fact of lack of sidewalks so people really don't walk around here either.

People need to have more pride in their neighborhood. It isn't outside forces that brings an area down, it is the people who live within it.

        Yup.

Some people around here don't even know how to keep their own yard clean. My grandparents put up a privacy fence along the road to keep from having to look across the road at their neighbors' ridiculous amount of junk in their yard...

It's pitiful. I'm glad I don't live around many people and my yard is surrounded by trees.

There are so many cigarette butts everywhere. Until a week ago I never noticed them, you know, there were always just there.

But somebody brought it up while riding in the car and I've have noticed that everywhere you look outside, there they are.

My school's campus is over run by them and usually the stupid, specially design container is RIGHT THERE!!!!!!! But no, "Flick it away, it's not my problem." Not to mention these same people smoke outside with the door wide open, filling the first floor with their stench for an hour, multiple times a day, everyday.

I can get behind this movement. My mother in law used to do this all the time, until I persistently got on her about that b.s.

If people as a whole would just take a second to examine nature and it's beauty and not pollute it, maybe it wouldn't be half bad. But people as a whole are selfish and self centered. If they could only realize... the planet will survive no matter what we can throw @ it. It's the human race that can't make it. That's the end to my philosophical rant for the year.

Plus, my house sits on a corner lot. People throw out trash, wind puts in my yard. I can't tell you how many times I've seen my dog chewing on some sort of garbage or my lawn mower runs over a beer bottle or anything like that. There are some things that piss me off even more than this, but it is definitely a solid top 5.

Nothing really pisses me off like the idiots I work with.

We have a special spot outside to smoke in. There are 3 cigarette receptacles out there, yet I see those morons finishing their smoke, and then flicking it into the grass or snow.

I bitched at a guy for it once and he thought I was joking and I was dead serious.

I mean they are literally 2 feet from the trash, and just flick it into the grass or snow.

And when spring comes and all the snow melts there are tons of butts everywhere! It's like these morons think by flicking them in the snow they just disappear.

No respect and it really pisses me off!

I think that my hatred for kids throwing trash has turned me into the "bad" coach. After every practice during football season, I walk the fields and collect all the loose trash that I find. Bottles, candy wrappers, subway bags....anyways. I collect it all during the week and Saturdays practice concludes with one lap around the track for every piece I find. Usually by the 4th or 5th week of practice I dont find much trash anymore, and our team's conditioning is vastly improved.

Hey man, that's actually a great initiative. Get the kids involved in the cleanup someway instead of, "Please help pick up this trash." When they've got a stake in it, they won't stand for when other people litter their field.

But you're right, you're definitely the bad coach.

I occassionaly toss gum out of my window, but that's the extent of my littering. I hate seeing people throw cigarettes out the window, though. I always imagine that one day the car that runs over a lit cigarette is going to explode.
