Re: Littering And....Littering And....
I have to admit to littering because I don't pick up after my dog. I take him away from the apartments to an area no one ever walks to do his business, but once I took him to the front because of nasty weather and a maintenance guy happened to walk up at that exact moment and he said "you know you're responsible for picking up that ****! I'm tired of having to step around it".
I did notice a lot of other dog droppings out there too, hopefully he didn't think they were all due to my dog, especially since some of the piles were bigger than him lol. I did feel bad about it, though. I also wonder if that guy says it to everyone he sees out with their dog, including girls. There's a maintenance woman that lives in the buildings and walks her dog out there too and she never picks it up, I wonder if that guy bitches to her too. I'm the only person that regularly walks the pooch out and away where no one goes, so I was also kinda grouchy at that guy, but he did have a point.
Also, I stopped flicking cigarettes out the window many years ago when I became afraid of starting a forest fire lol (plus now I don't smoke while I drive)Last edited by l3ulvl; 02-11-2012, 12:33 AM.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: Littering And....Littering And....
I'm totally against littering and always have been but I will admit, back in the day when I was a smoker (quit 10+ years ago) I was one of those people that didn't think twice about discarding my butts anywhere.
And here's a little story for everyone...
A couple years ago I was driving down California's Highway 1 to go camping in Big Sur. For those that aren't familiar, Highway 1 runs along much of CA's coast and is regarded as one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the world with cliffs and redwood forests on one side of the road and dramatic ocean views on the other.
Anyway, at one point, the person sitting behind the driver seat in the car in front of me chucked three white paper fast food bags out the window, one at a time. Each bag was full to the gills of trash and stuff and basically exploded as they hit the road in front of me. Here I was enjoying the beautiful scenery and this car full of nobs do that ****. I was pissed.
They pulled over at the next scenic overlook and damn straight, I pulled in right behind them. They start getting out of their car, and they're obviously tourists (Chinese I think). They barely understood a word of English as I tried to communicate to them about the littering. The overlook had a garbage can with picture signs about throwing your trash in the bin and not littering. I used it as a prop as I played a little game of charades with a bunch of foreigners.
I don't know if they got the point but I felt better about what I did. Plus my girlfriend got a great laugh out of it as she sat in the car watching me go at it with these people.
Anyone else ever confront a litterer?Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: Littering And....Littering And....
I personally try not to litter (every now and then I might if I'm in the process of a long walk and have absolutely nowhere to put a wrapper or whatever), but this whole holier than thou attitude that some of you have just because one person decides to be honest is pretty overboard IMO.
I pretend someone, or more specifically a law enforcement agent, is watching me when I have trash to dispose of and no place to put it (besides pocket, car, etc.) Think that way next time, and you'll think twice before chucking your ****.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Littering And....Littering And....
I littered a lot when I was a kid and a teenager because I didn't care, but I can't remember the last time I did litter. It just seems unnecessary now, and I never have a problem finding a trash can close by to throw my garbage away.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: Littering And....Littering And....
I appreciate the honesty, but it is a little disheartening to know some of my fellow OS'ers don't care enough to just throw the trash away in the proper place. I think people in this thread have actually kept it pretty civil when you consider guys like Knight stake out habitual litterers.

Re: Littering And....Littering And....
This is an interesting topic. I never really thought about it much. I guess it does bother me somewhat. I almost always properly dispose of my trash. If I see a lot of trash on a lawn or the best is near a garbage can, that pisses me off.
I always throw my trash from my car away. I wouldn't throw it out the window. I don't know, maybe a starburst wrapper I would. Don't recall ever doing that though.
I did used to throw my cigarette butts out the window. But like someone else said I don't smoke in my new car.
I definitely think people should make an effort to dispose of trash properly. But its not something that keeps me up at night.Comment
