Wait, dog **** is littering? Hell some places they call it fertilizer. Question for everyone...

Is food products (chicken bones, banana peels, etc.) considered litter?

      All of that is littering.

If someone is gonna pick it up so it can go to the dump, it's trash.

        Re: Littering And....Littering And....

I threw a straw out of the window to mess with someone the other day and felt really bad about it. Whenever it rains and the river here gets into the trees its amazing how much trash is stuck in the branches and stuff once the water recedes.

The only littering I don't feel bad about it throwing bottle caps into the lake.

I'd hardly consider throwing a banana peel in the ditch littering. It's biodegradable, and banana peels break down really, really quickly.

The only time I "litter" is after eating an apple or banana and have absolutely nowhere to put it. But that isn't exactly littering. I still feel bad and hardly do it, but I do do it from time to time.

              Re: Littering And....Littering And....

Nice thread guys. It bothers me a lot. We have just had new neighbours move in next door and like clockwork every Saturday and Sunday morning I have to go and pick up empty alcohol containers off my lawn. The fact that these people move through life expecting everybody else to clean up their crap really grinds my gears. I get quite depressed when I hear these folks screaming and yelling obscenities at their child because I know that the cycle is just going to continue.

I guess the littering is just a symptom of a much larger failure in parenting and general empathy towards other human beings.

Depends if the alcohol containers are returnable... in Michigan that makes a difference

Yeah a couple of weeks. I guess I'm afraid of confrontation with these guys. I'm not exactly an imposing guy and these people are rough as hell. I should probably just phone my council office and make a complaint, I guess that may do some good.

                      Guff;

                      Tread lightly.
No sense in 1....getting into an altercation over litter and 2.....having them right next to you all the time to make your life unpleasant.
Phone calls to law enforcement is as far as I would recommend.

Thanks Knight. I'm going to see how it goes next weekend and decide on a course of action. They are considerably noisy as well, which I don't really take issue with but we have a baby arriving in September and I would have to draw the line there.

It's a shame because we live in a nice neighborhood with friendly, respectful people. These guys have moved in and immediately changed the vibe of the street. We have working families with kids and then these guys who clearly don't work as they are able to stay at home all day and blast music over our fence.

I went through the same thing in an apartment building that I lived in when I first got married.
When we took the apartment....it was mostly older people who lived there forever...as they "left".....a bit of an element started to seep in. The apartment right next door to me was much like you're describing. It was nerve wracking to say the least. I had many an altercation and it even got me a trip to CCRB(Civilian Complaint Review Board), which as a police officer it's something you get used to....but not when you're not on duty!!!
At any rate.....just keep your cool.

In some places, that is a $150 fine. Code enforcement is no joke. Just like have paper or any type of trash on your front yard, backyard or in the alley behind your house, is a $300 fine.

Grass not cut on a regular basis ? $50 fine for the 1st offense, $75 for the second offense and $150 for the 3rd offense.

Reason being, dog crap and litter attract rats and raccoons. So you have a good amount of towns and cities that crack down hard on littering.

Think nobody is watching and you find that damn ticket in your mail box.

Funny, I was just out collecting "sea glass" for my future mother-in-law. She makes crafts out of them.

Interesting stuff. My fiance's family goes to a bunch of junk beaches and stuff and finds VERY interesting artifacts. It's not just trash that's been dumped, but tons of stuff from surrounding bases and whatnot in the 20s-60's. It's like you could make a museum out of this stuff. All from the Delaware River.

But yeah... tons of trash too. Low tide so we saw everything. Reminded me of a local river cleanup I participated in back in the late 90's. It's amazing just how disgusting a lot of these bodies of water are. The Delaware is notoriously disgusting.
