Re: Fads you remember....
I do remember reading the Deadwood City and the Third Planet from Altair ones. Maybe even Harlow Trumbly.
Before school let out a few weeks ago, I saw a group sitting at a table at dinner with bleached hair. It was the late 90s all over again. My friends and I were also going to try to bring back "Wazzzzaaaa" again, but it was too late in the year to start.Last edited by sydrogerdavid; 05-17-2012, 12:34 AM.Comment

These were real popular when I was in elementary school circa 1997.
I bought a box recently and they're a lot smaller and not nearly as hard.

Re: Fads you remember....
Oh boy how did I miss this thread, going way back there are so many crazy fads I remember from school.
- Pokemon - everything the Show, the cards, the video games. Seemed like in Elementary school 4th -7th grade everyone was involved in this. Started with kids bringing their Gameboy pockets to school and playing Red/Blue version, trading, battling, then kids started bringing the cards in, started trading and showing off. Led to some fights, and some rare cards getting stolen. School eventually banned anything Pokemon from being brought in.. because no one was focusing on Schoolwork, just Pokemon.
- Beanie Babies, Crazy Bones, Tamagotchi's, Yugioh all got huge in school. All eventually banned.
- The Jersey Shore, crazy spiked up Blow out Hairstyle. Started with 1 kid who started styling his hair this way with all the crazy spikes, and tons of gel. Then seemed like all the dudes started trying to follow this hair style.
- The "Bieber" cut, the longish hair, with the front flipped to one side almost near your eyebrows. If you were not rocking the "Blowout" look you had the Bieber cut.
- Overpriced Mall clothes, the Holister, Abercrombie, American Eagle..etc.. if you wanted to be part of the "cool" preppy crowd you had to wear these clothes.
- Airforce 1's, Nike sneakers. If you were part of the Basketball crowd, you had to have a pair of these. I know some kids that had like 10 different pairs, and they coordinated them by style, color to match their clothes lol.Minnesota Vikings

Re: Fads you remember....
Can't say I didn't try it out. I was a young, impressionable, kid who wanted to fit in. Just wasn't for me though, required way too much effort to maintain, and felt kind of goofy, sloppy with all the gel needed to hold the spikes, look in place. I know if I had a better quality gel/wax it would maybe feel more natural but who wants to spend like $20-30 bucks on a little bottle of hair product.Last edited by Feared; 05-17-2012, 05:11 PM.Minnesota Vikings

That was the first thing that sprang to mind when Jersey Shore debuted...
"Who's that 'lost' Gotti Boy"

Re: Fads you remember....
Yeah, for the early part of the '00 decade, it was derisively termed a "Gotti Boy" 'do ('don't?) in my part of the world, after the reality show that featured those guys around 2004 or so...
That was the first thing that sprang to mind when Jersey Shore debuted...
"Who's that 'lost' Gotti Boy"
but it was actually the growing up Gotti show that started the Blowout trend with guys back in High School, and not Jersey Shore. Which actually came later? I think?Minnesota Vikings
