I've always bought a jersey because of the team. Always found it tough who to pick. I've never been a fan of players type of guy. Like I said, I had a Bledsoe jersey, and while he was a decent QB, I don't recall ever having a particular interest in him. Same thing with McGahee. I did like Griffey as more than just a player on my team.

Got some extra money, thinking about buying a Joey Votto Reds jersey. Or maybe a few shirseys. Decisions.

Any good websites, maybe good deals on multiple purchases?

Allow me to begin by saying, I do not own a single jersey. This is due to personal taste and not meant to knock anyone who does.

Grown men wearing jerseys has always seemed corny to me. Always seemed like something meant for women and children. But hey, wear jerseys if that's what you like. I'm sure there are things I wear that others would never be caught dead in.

The whole won't wear a younger players jersey argument is funny. Almost seems like you're being salty because he is more successful and younger.

For me, I wear jerseys of those that I idolized at some point. Ryne Sandberg is my favorite Cub of all-time, Griffey is my favorite athlete of all-time. Peppers WAS my favorite Panther when I got his jersey. I still have the jersey, but I don't wear it anymore.

I wanted to be like these players when I was younger. That's why I got their jerseys.

I don't look up to/idolize someone who is younger than me. That's my reasoning.

I wear a Cowboys' jersey to work about once a week (we have an extremely lax dress code at SRRN, haha). So no, I have no problem with "wearing players names on my back", as it were.

As to the price of jerseys, though I agree they are costly, the upshot is that the things last for years and they aren't really affected by style trends, even if your team drastically alters its uniforms.

I own several Marlins shirseys and wear them on the regular. I like them, especially the way they fit me.

I say to each their own. If you want to wear a jersey, have at it, no matter your age.

With that said, recent experiences have made me re-evaluate who should be honored with apparel. I wish I had a jersey/shiersey whatever of my nephew currently serving in the Army in Afghanistan; I wish I had one of my centerfielder from my 07 and 08 baseball team who is in Afghanistan with the Marines serving on a bomb squad, one of my best friend from high school that served twice in Iraq. These two MEN and thousands of others serving or have served are my heroes, it would be cool to honor them in a way we honor our sports heroes. Have a shirersey with the branch on the front, Name on the back, that would be cool.

Fans don't buy shirseys or whatever because they're a great product or material. People buy jerseys solely because of the player whose name is on the back. Don't believe me, I'm sure some fans have guys on their team they don't like and would refuse to wear their jersey, despite being a fan of said team.

You'd be surprised. Apple is a cult. They could literally put **** in a box, call it the iDump, and have people lining up to buy it.

And no, people don't always buy jerseys necessarily because of the name on the back. They buy jerseys because of teams they support and the player they choose to be on the back might be one of their favorite players on their team, or the one that has the number they like, etc.

Of course, there are people who are strict player-supporters though. And I've bought a Dirk jersey and Pujols shirt because I love both players. For the most part though, it's about the team.

I don't see an issue with it. The only time I think it's kind of weird is wearing a jersey when it's not gameday. I'd never go out to eat or go shopping or what have you on a Tuesday wearing a Colts jersey. I only wear my jerseys when my team is playing that day. None of my jerseys get worn in the off season of any sport. Now, I do wear shirts and sweatshirts and things of that nature whenever. But wearing an actual jersey casually is kind of weird to me. I don't know.

I once wore my MJ jersey to work, I think when I had a birthday back in 2005. I can pretty much wear anything I want to work and it's been like that with most of my jobs.

Other than that I hardly ever wear it (and there's no real basketball league here). I bought it back in 1998 in the US.

And that's the beauty about legend jerseys - they don't change teams (forget the Wizards!).
