Either one. They'll send you a check or you can apply it toward your card. I knocked $400 off my bill last month with rewards points.

Love my Freedom card. Pretty much everything I buy goes on it, and then I pay it off each month.

I agree here this is the way to go. I just had them apply it to my bill.

That credit card I got? I barely remember to use that, guess it'll be easier after summer and i'm not so tight on $$.

What i'll probably do is just use it to strictly buy groceries then pay it off for now, otherwise if I buy a lot of little things with it I just know i'll forget to pay it later that day and get screwed.

I just like the added bonuses for Chase. Such as extra money back on Groceries.

            Re: Credit Card

Discover is also a good card. They do the same thing as Chase with 5% cash back on certain things purchased (ie: this quarter is gas, movie theaters and theme parks....next quarter is holiday shopping). This year I've earned over $200 in cash back.

You can also get cash back on paying certain bills - this month is cable, internet, phone. I don't use this service though.

              Re: Credit Card

My opinion on credit cards? They are evil. Capital One completely took advantage of me when I was younger lol..

I was 18 years old and hadn't ever had a job (a real one). Lets give him a $3000 credit card. Sounded great as I was headed to college. Oh he's made all of his payments for a year... Lets up that to $5000 (still without ever having a job that wasn't of the under the table variety). I had made all my payments because I wasn't using it..

Then about half way through college they got what they wanted. I hit some spots of financial difficulty (I had a job at this point lol) and eventually my credit card was maxed. I probably made a good $10000 or so in payments over several years and it was still pretty much maxed (fees and such).

Recently I received a settlement for my father's death. Credit card paid off.. They cancelled it on me two days later..

I guess there investment in me was a good one, but they realized they had probably gotten all they were going to get from me.

Your points accumulate under the "Ultimate Rewards" (UR) section. After each billing cycle they add up and you can see your point total.

I have received over $500 in rewards this year. Keep in mind that includes my initial $300 bonus. I took the first $350 and purchased Amazon giftcards through the UR program. The giftcards were discounted 10% through UR.

It was fun to get my PS Vita for nothing, but from here on out I am putting my points towards my balance. It was nice to knock off $165 off my credit card just because I could.

Knocked off another $60 from my outstanding balance with the points.

Absolutely love this card as I haven't paid any fees and have over $750 in rewards in under a year.

Does anybody have a credit card that gives you flight miles?

I just got an offer from Capitol One that says for every $1 I spend, I get 1.25 miles.

So if I spend 1,000 bucks a month on the card, I can basically fly to anywhere in the country round trip?

That just seems way too good to be true. Lol

You don't redeem them mile for mile. It usually takes 10,000 miles to even get a free $250 or so plane ticket

Did you call them? They can't just cancel on you out of the blue.

So would anybody here have any opinions on like a student card?

I'm a sophomore in college, and I'd really like to start building credit now. I applied for the Discover student card but it requires students to have an annual income of $15,000 (How many actually make $15,000 while in school).

I don't need a huge limit just something small to start out on.

Been awhile since I've looked but I think Capital One has one of the better "student" cards

It's a great idea IMO, as long as you're not stupid and don't end up spending money you don't have. That can be tempting when you're poor, but running up a huge credit card sucks
