Re: The official Science/nerdy discussion thread

I would have LOVED to become an astrophysicist, but despite a reasonably high IQ, I don't have it for advanced/abstract maths. It's like wanting to be an architect, but you can't draw LOL.

So, I live it out vicariously by watching a lot of science shows on the great 'nerdy' networks on DirecTV, like Science Channel, NGC, History, H2, Disc, etc. I love 'The Universe' the most!

Wish my high school had a astronomy class when I went there. I would have loved it.

anyone else dabble in the scientific world? maybe do research?

I used to work in research at a molecular biology lab, although now I'm with the FBI. I do still like to geek out science-wise though.

You should check out a podcast I listen to all the time, The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. They discuss all kinds of things science related; mainly neuroscience (the lead guy is a neuroscientist at Yale, Steven Novella) and astronomy, as well as spend a good deal of time debunking pseudoscience. Really good show.

I wanted to get into this thread (great topic, btw.) I am definitely into science and technology. I'm an engineer in the Aerospace and Defense industry, and my wife is a biology major; so we are always taking our younger kids on scientific outings.

Speaking of astronomy, here is a picture I took at Rice University, during the Transit of Venus event, last month:
