Re: OS Firearms Thread
Took this new Marlin .243 out this weekend for one last deer rifle hunt. I ended up folding a decent size doe around 95 lbs. I've never killed a deer with a .243 so I was a little iffy if I should attempt it, being that its considered on the smaller size. I picked up a box of 100 grain and hoped for the best.
Saturday evening right at dark, she stepped out and I placed the best shot I could of ever asked for. Right behind the shoulder, blew out both lungs and the heart. Extremely humane harvest, she never took a single step. She just simply laid down and was gone in less than 2 min.
So I was extremely happy with how the .243 handled itself. It is a necked down .308 which has killed plenty of deer in its time but I was still a little hesitant, plus on top of that it was a pretty good distance shot around 125 yards.
Anyway, GMSS........MO MEAT FOR THE FREEZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I bought my CC pistol the other day. S&W Shield 40. Super compact and fits my hand good(with the extended grip mag, anyway).
After putting a box through it, I regret not buying the 9mm. It's hard to put multiple shots on target quickly. But I'm also new to pistol shooting so I've got a lot of practicing to do.

Re: OS Firearms Thread
.40 is perfect, I'd think you would of regret getting the 9mm. I shot around 2 clips out of CCP focused Springfield XDS .45 this weekend and it felt fantastic. It had decent kick/rise to it but the balance had it fall pretty comfortably for pretty quick follow up shots. I think the big thing to remember with that .40, don't plan on trying to rip rounds out because it would only take 1 round to drop someone if you needed to protect yourself, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Just from a kinetic energy stand point I'd go with the .40 over a 9mm all day, since you are looking at around 1/3rd more energy for the .40. The 9mm is traveling at a higher velocity, you will get more clean pass through and the smaller size results in less energy transfer, where that .40 will transfer more of that energy to the target and result in more kinetic damage (knock down).
All in all both rounds have their place and are so close in measurements that its really nothing to concern yourself with. Focus on accurate handling of the weapon and it will server you well.Last edited by Phobia; 01-11-2016, 12:07 PM.Comment

In the end I sort of feel like the answer to my problems is just time with gun and rounds down range. There such light weight small frame pistols that I don't know if that's a lot of the muzzle flip I'm feeling.

Re: OS Firearms Thread
One of the guys at the local gun shop highly recommended Alien Gear for iwb holsters. I have read some good reviews too. Anybody else have any input?

Re: OS Firearms Thread
Look up Crossbreed holsters. I have one for my .45 XDS. It's iwb and very comfortable.Comment

Re: OS Firearms Thread
I think the Springfield XDS .45 is extremely hard to beat. Killer knock down in a small compact frame.
Edit: I should also say, I'm a big Sig fan so you wouldn't go wrong with the P320 either.Last edited by Phobia; 01-14-2016, 11:09 AM.Comment

Re: OS Firearms Thread
I highly recommend the Shield models like I just bought too. The extended grip mag it came with (7+1) fits my hand perfectly. Just need to find my most comfortable off hand positioning. If you can shoot a few models that's the best way to go to figure it out

Re: OS Firearms Thread
Yea extended mags on most compacts give you little more hand position to play with while still sporting the short barrel length. I've played around with both and for me my hands are not huge where I require the extended mags, but I could see where it could help bigger men.I highly recommend the Shield models like I just bought too. Re: OS Firearms Thread
Here in NY, not exactly easy to get a permit, but it something. I have been thinking about.
If I do get a pistol, I'm definitely getting a Sig, probably something concealed as well. The 224 looks nice.

I don't have bear paws or anything but I'm a big guy. And I have wide palms. So it fits great
