If I'm correct, and Isaac does manage to hit the gulf, doesn't that basically mean all bets are off on how powerful it could become?

I feel like a bad person when I watch the hurricane coverage, because it is so interesting to watch, yet knowing that it's so dangerous.

    Stay safe all.

Basically if it hits the 25 by 85 mark, that's when **** hits the fans. And usually once it reaches the gulf, it makes a drastic turn northward.

He're a model of Katrina to show what I'm talking about. Follow the black line

And while Betsy's took the scenic route, it was nearly just as devastating, look at it's course once it hits that mark I told you about.

Oh course this is just Louisiana, I have no clue what the magic mark is for Alabama/Florida panhandle.

Mobile ain't looking to safe anymore, by far wont be my first Hurricane but sure don't need one now. Even though a 7 year drought has been nice.

It shouldn't be anywhere near Major Hurricane level. The only way that happens is if it goes under Hispanola and Cuba. I would say it will be strong Cat 1 to weak Cat 2 before making landfall somewhere between the Texas coast to the Florida Panhandle.

If it goes towards Texas I could see it being like a Cat 3, otherwise the way it's projected to go now most likely max a Cat 1 or low 2

There is no way it would be a Cat 3. Not enough time. This isn't September Gulf temperatures.

I was referring to if it just kept going more and more West, if it's in the Gulf enough it's possible but that's only if it does that imo.

I'm with OSU. I know how destructive these things can be but the weather nerd in me is just so fascinated by it.

Hope it all works out in the end though.

Looks like a Monday/Tuesday landfall in Florida as a Cat 1.

They keep saying beware of the I's. Always seem to make devastating landfalls with the US.
