    Re: Eleven

Wow can't believe some people were so young when this happened.

I was in 8th grade at the time, I remember having to call for hours to make sure both my dad and uncle who work in the city were ok. Those were the scariest few hours of my life.

I'll never forget the smell and the visual smoke cloud that lingered for the days after the attack.

    RIP.

My first week of college was just starting. Woken up by screams from my auntie, she was frantic because my aunt was working on that street at the Waldorf hotel. We couldn't get a hold of her till the end of the day, that was probably the most frantic I ever felt.

I was a junior in high school. We had marching band practice during my first class, so it wasn't until my second class that I found out what happened. That was US Government, so we watched the coverage for the entire class, including several replays of the buildings collapsing. Most of the other classes tried to go on as normal, but still had tv's on so we could watch while we did homework. I went home and watched coverage until midnight or so. What really showed me how enormous the situation was is that every single station was showing coverage, including channels that never had news coverage before.

I was in the same boat as you man. I was in 3rd grade when it happened, and I was completely oblivious to what was happening until I got home. All the teachers just went on with their routines and didn't even acknowledge anything was wrong. I remember we were watching Little House on the Prairie when a Hall Mom came into my classroom, handed my teacher a note which called me to go the office. Now I was a 3rd grader, but since we were watching the single most boring thing I'd ever seen at the time...I was excited. I was confused by getting called out on a Tuesday, but I was also incredibly excited to be leaving what I thought hell looked and sounded like. When I got down to the office and got checked out I finally asked my mom what had happened to make her call me out. She was hesitant to talk about it at first, but eventually told me a very basic recollection of what had occurred that day.

After reflecting back on this over the years it seems that I remember more about the day after than I would have thought. Because everyone had found out what happened and although I couldn't have explained it as such back then, the whole day had a somber feeling about it. The moment of silence we had at the beginning of the day lasted a good 10 minutes with everyone just sitting there reflecting on what had happened and paying respect to all those who we lost on that day. I remember my thoughts were all over the place, I knew everything in this country had changed in a matter of minutes and even though I was 8...I could just sense that things would never be the same again, ya know?

First week of college, just had got out of Sports Refereeing class and was walking through the cafeteria with my boy, when we see the tv and a few peeps watching it. We initially thought it was some movie or something.

After that, we still had MF'ing classes and had to sit in English doing nothing for an hour until the prof. finally let us go.

                I'm old.

2nd year of college, slept through the entire thing - my roommate that was home didn't even wake me up. Then I was watching the news coverage and really getting weirded out by all the conclusions that were being jumped to. It was just a weird day all around.

I remember that day being crazy hectic when I got home. Parents were all types of worried and I just couldn't grasp the magnitude of it I guess as I was strangely calm and nonchalant. I was in high school. Freshman year in math class. The vice principal of the school went to the classrooms and told the teachers and that's as far as it went for my class.

The rumors floating around that day were truly insane.
Yeah, I was in 10th grade I believe. My chemistry teacher was being all nonchalant about everything: "Oh you guys will hear about it later, and for the next couple of days - nothing to look at now."

I was pretty upset because my dad was on a plan headed to New York that day, so his demeanor just set me off. I walked out of the room and called my dad, his plane was delayed thankfully - and was fine. Went back in the room and took my seat. Teacher didn't say anything to me, so I was good for the rest of class.

After a while though - all the teachers had the TVs on - and class was spent just watching coverage.

I remember the night before, watching Brian Griese go ape**** on MNF and pretty much closing down the bar that night. I got home around 3:00 am and passed out since I was pretty bombed. I was awoken by a phone call around 9:30 am or so from a friend of mine.

"Hellooooow?" I grumbled with a dry mouth.

"Dude, are you watching this?" said my friend, Melissa.

"What the **** are you talking about?" I replied.

"Are you awake, or...?" she asked.

"What the **** do you think?" I rhetorically asked.

"Well, wake the hell up and turn on your TV RIGHT NOW!" she demanded.

"Um, okay. What channel?" I asked.

                        "ANY CHANNEL!" she exclaimed.

I turned on the TV and about 15-30 minutes later, the first tower had collapsed. Followed shortly by the second one and reports of the Pentagon being attacked and another plane unaccounted for that was rumored to be near Cleveland around the time I woke up and caught up with the news.

It was really surreal, being that one usually wakes up FROM a nightmare and not TO a nightmare.

I went over to my brother's house that afternoon and went to give blood/plasma with him, but I was really hungover and still had a bunch of alcohol in my system so they didn't think it was a good idea. Touche!

Anyway, I will never forget that day. Certainly the biggest tragedy of our generation.

I was super young like only 2 or 3. But I only remember what my mom told me. She said that I was watching TV and some neighbors came over and said to turn on any station. So they did and saw what happened. I am proud though that I live in a country that everyone comes together when some dorks come and crash planes into our buildings.

                            Thank you Knight.

Can't imagine what today must be like for you, bro. But you are the reason why this country is so great. Thanks again.

As for my experience, I was in 8th grade. Our principal announced it over the speaker when the first and second plane hit. I went to a religious school, so we had an emergency chapel. I just remember everyone being kind of shocked, and the faculty saying...things that would get me banned here.

I remember my science teacher put on the radio in our room, and I heard there was a plane headed towards Pittsburgh. My brother was at Pennsylvania Culinary at the time and I remember being so frightened that he was in danger.

One of the worst, most surreal days of my entire life. The thought that we all watched in horror as thousands of innocent people died right in front of us, that hundreds of police and firefighters bravely sacrificed themselves to save others. While it was a horrible, horrible thing, it also gave me hope that people like them, like Knight, still exist to this day.

God bless everyone from New York on this day, people who lost loved ones, and people at the Pentagon.

I don't remember a whole lot that day, except telling myself I would never forget where I was when it happened. I do remember watching when the second WTC plane hit...

OSU, nice words about our own Knight. He's always on my mind on this day. Hang in there.

I was a junior in college at FSU, and was in a chemistry lab when the attacks happened. No one came in and told us. I found out after leaving the lab and seeing a group of people huddled around a radio. I thought something had happened on campus, but obviously, it proved to be much worse.

My thoughts then went to my Dad, a NY State Trooper. I was born and raised in NY, so while I personally didn't know anyone that was directly affected, the attacks were still very personal to me because I knew my dad would be sent down to NYC to help out. Thankfully I was able to talk with him before he went (he left the next day and was there on and off for the next 6 months). I remember being really scared, thinking more attacks would follow.

Thank you to the 343 and everyone that was involved in the rescue efforts that day 11 years ago. You will never be forgotten.
