There is no way I was waking up at 6:00 am in 5th grade, but substitute Animorphs for Goosebumps and Math Blaster for Oregon Trail, and that was me.

I still eat that kind of cereal and gushers now...

I was beginning to think I was too young to remember some of this stuff, then the Book Fair Day thing happened.

      ****ing loved Book Fair...

EDIT: And we didn't have playground equipment (well, not a lot of it). We had an empty parking lot with a kickball diamond painted on the blacktop. I'm not #GMSSing you, that's just the way it was.

Also I am well aware of those Iowa Test GMSS talks about. Those were a pain in the ***. And his Algebra timeline sounds about right to me.

Math Blaster was 3rd grade for me.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

          Must....go....back!

          LOL

Maybe I'm of the slightly older crowd, but we had the GIANT floppy disks with the typing games and Oregen Trail where the hunter was like 3 pixels and the bullet was one giant pixel that flew across the screen.

Just look out for that pesky dysentery. (Look it up)

Right there with ya. Although I usually caught typhoid.

I never even let it go to winter - either everyone was dead or I had made it to Willamette long before that. What happens?

                  Brings back some good memories.

Anyone play that Toothbrush game? I know it was on one of those bigger floppy disk. Not sure what they were called.

We also had a typing game to help us learn how to type. I think it was called PAWS? That was fun.

I remember having Book It in elementary school. It was affiliated with Pizza Hut. Read so many books and you get free pizza and other prizes. Schools always gave out these pins.

I have a postcard signed by R.A. Montgomery (one of the authors) because I mailed him as a kid lol

What's funny is I saw that postcard while we were packing things up for the move...it was in a photo album I created as a kid and my mom kept lol

As far as math goes for me, I was considered an advanced student but only the high school portion was comparable to GMSS.

                        8th: Pre Algebra
                        9th: Algebra I
                        10th: Trig/Algebra II
                        11th: Pre Cal
                        12th: AP Calc

I didn't really ever think much about it until I got to college and started meeting people who were taking Algebra (especially athletes). I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around that.

In PE my favorite stuff involved:

I was probably TOO competitive with it.

And the always dreaded mile run. Elementary school made the mile seem like climbing Mt. Everest. It was the pinnacle of all physical achievement for us.

It's amazing how much of this relates to me. Maybe things aren't so different, in other parts of the country.

I never had one of those clocks and my grandmother cooked breakfast a lot of mornings. We lived next door, so I went there before catching the bus. I usually ate breakfast and watched Aladdin, Gargoyles, and Darkwing Duck.

I even remember drawing the S, by starting with 6 lines.

We had those lunch room tables with the circular seats. If you got lucky, you found one that would spin and they were worth something.

Those erasers didn't work at all. I always came away with some ridiculously cheap science experiment kit, when I went to the Schoolastic Book Fair. We rarely got to watch Bill and I don't even know what Math Blasters is. We had an actual computer computer class and the popular games were Oregon Trail and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers.

I always thought the parachute thing was stupid. I would have rather played dogeball, kickball, soccer, hockey, basketball, etc. I have never seen those flat rolling things, but we did have some that had handles and you could twist back and forth to make it move.. very similar to those.

I forgot all about Animporhs.. Animorphs and Goosebumps were the ****. Does anyone remember watching Bettleborgs, in the afternoon ?

Also, that square pizza looks weak in comparison to what our lunch ladies sold.

Did anybody else have "Field Day" or basically an entire day dedicated to PE?

I remember if the Teacher was proud of our class for doing something good, we'd get Extra Recess, which was like the equivalent of winning the Lottery except without actually winning money.
