Light Poles in the Middle of the Lanes

Yes, this is real straight out Brazil (Rio de Janeiro area, specifically). Looks like something you would find on a meme or something.

Worst of all, perhaps, is that there's no warning signs of it and they just repaved it without fixing it! There are 220 posts like this inside the roadway.

O GLOBO percorreu toda a extensão da Estrada dos Bandeirantes e constatou que 102 postes estão fora do lugar, alguns representando alto risco de acidentes

South American roads are crazy anyway lol. Those mountainside roads are nuts as well. This here is just either a shortcoming in funding or extreme effin' laziness

Older American Neighborhoods are like this, this is not just a South American thing... I used to have to go to a distribution Center in one Baltimore's not so nice Neighborhoods and the utility poles were about 6 inches off the road, not very easy to drive a tractor Trailer in...

While you're definitely right, there's a big difference between 6 inches onto the road, and about 6 ft, lol.

Utility poles are a nuisance. We have too many, and they're all in the way of something now. Where I go to school there are no utility poles in the downtown area. They have all the utility wires (electric, phone, cable) buried underground. Makes it a pain when something breaks and they have to dig up crap, but it does look much better.

They've been putting a lot of the newer electric poles underground here, too, ever since the December 2002 Ice Storm that knocked out power to thousands/millions of North Carolinians for close to a week. Freezing rain can't bring down trees and power lines if they're underground!
