They are lucky to have any days off. At the restaurant I worked at for 2+ years, we didn't get any holidays and were open normal hours Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

Honestly, I don't think anyone should be open on Thanksgiving.

      It's my favorite Holiday.

Employers are supposed to care about their employees. Why don't they just go ahead and only pay minimum wage to everyone?

Exactly. I feel bad that these people have to work on Thanksgiving, but you know what you're getting yourself into when you apply to work for Wal-Mart. It's a horrible company. I understand Wal-Mart isn't where a lot of the employees wanted to work at, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get a paycheck. Wal-Mart understands that, and they know they'll have no problem finding another body to replace someone who quits or gets fired.

I think someone saying Wal-Mart doesn't care about family is a little silly. Of course they don't, it's Wal-Mart. It cares about one thing only.

My first thought was, that is plenty of time to fire everyone, hire all new staff and train them.

I would love to interview the guy who owns the local Chinese restaurant near me, that guy works every day of the year.

Thank God our military doesn't expect or demand holidays off.

Wal Mart at least does holiday pay. It's a ****ty $1 extra an hour, but I worked at Lowe's and they didn't do anything.

The military is quite a bit different than working retail no? I think being on alert/working 24/7/365 is expected of military personnel and they know it before they even get in.

On the flip side, I'd say working holidays is something everyone knows you have to do at a retail outlet.

                      Touche,

Though I think the problem is more of a systemic one with Wal-Mart in that they treat their employees like crap. I don't think working holidays is THAT much of a deal but it's the whole atmosphere in the workplace there.

**** Walmart. They ruined the economy. Put the mom and pop shops out of business and hired people at **** wages.

Ever looked at the richest people in our country? See how many times the Walton family shows up. It's absolutely sickening what that company stands for. But they apparently can't pay their employees more than the 8 whatever an hour they get...

I don't care if an item is 99% cheaper, I'll never shop there.

It's going down a bad path.
