    Re: Direct Tv or Cable

DirecTV can go to hell, I use to have them but switched to cable a long time ago. Weather plays a huge part but I drew the line one day while watching a baseball game and my services was interrupted by a message saying it was too sunny and that they apologize! WTF I was done and never looked back.

Sorry about your experience, but I've had directv for 14 yrs and it's been a good experience.

      To each their own.

My parents have had DirecTV for 10 years and I loved it when I was back home especially for the sports packages. Time Warner was just a joke when it came to the HD offerings. Fios is much better, but when I move again, I will probably consider satellite again. Referral from my dad will make up for some of the higher costs. I pay $130 right now for all my stuff and they pay $150, but they also have twice as many receivers as I would.

However, they lose signal quite a bit. Any low-lying clouds seem to kill it and this was both with the old dish and after they got the HD dish. I may tell them to get someone out to look at it, but if after 2 installations, it wasn't perfect, not sure if it can get much better. The signal in the menu always claims it is good, though.

We had over a inch of snow on Friday, the light and fluffy stuff and there wasn't any interruption of service.

Today will be a real test.

The forecast is calling for a wintry mix, sleet, freezing rain, snow and rain changing to all rain tonight.

            Re: Direct Tv or Cable

I didn't completely lose signal, but my HD broke up for about 5 minuets on Friday. I was only disappointed because that 5 minutes was the 5 minutes I was waiting for whenever Smackdown! came on, haha.

Other then that, it stayed on during the heavy snow, but like you said. Tonight will be the real test. We're going the same stuff you are.

              No interruptions.

We had heavy snow for about 15 minutes, turned to freezing rain, now just drizzle and ran the next 2 days.

So, I think the hard part is over with, although, there is suppose to be a t-storm or two Monday night into Tuesday.

yeah mine never really goes out in snow or the winter at all.
only time it went out in winter was because the icy snow caked on the dish and i had to wait for it to melt away.

The summer is the problem for me. The dark low clouds in the summer from storms just kill the HD channels. Its really not bad enough for me to go through the trouble to contact a technician. Then Id have to take a day off from work and wait for them ALL day.

I just know if i get a tech out to move the dish, they will make it worse. Happens all the time.

You can adjust the dish very easily if you are handy at all. Just mark where is it right now and make small adjustments. You can search for videos on how to do it. If you screw it up, as long as you marked where it was you can move it back.

And whenever it comes to HD channels going out, I have no problem switching over to the SD channels. Of course most locals don't do that, but I don't watch a lot on the locals anyways.

The big storm we had pass over a few days ago only caused about 5 minutes of interruption. We had a heavy rain, sleet, freezing rain and a bit of snow.

This occurred with the heavy rain as their could have been lightening in the area too.

That storm lasted 2 days and I give it the thumbs up for reception.

Just had my first big test of Direct Tv. We have had 2 storms here in a week or so. First storm was a snow storm. We got about 2 inches and it coated my dish with snow and ice. We did not lose the signal even a bit.

Just a few days ago we had torrential down pours for the better part of a day with 60+ mile and hour winds and we watched TV thru the whole storm. The signal would flicker a bit but we would change to another channel and everything would be fine.

Very impressed now that our installation was installed correctly, everything has been great.

big test for my dish starting tomorrow nite.
im predicting it will be out until monday.
If we do end up getting the 3 feet of snow. I'll be looking at at least a week without dish unless i go up on my roof and start shoveling snow.

They have upgraded our snow chances from 2 to 6 to 5 to 8 inches. Heavy, wet stuff, too.
