Hey fellas I'm current sitting in the hospital right now as my wife just went into labor and this will be my second son.

I've never really thought how my son would handle this as he's only 2 and really doesn't understand what's going so me and the wife have started since we found out she was pregnant telling him that he's got a "bubba" coming and he gets excited and all that good stuff.

This has always made me wonder so fathers out there with 2 or more kids, my question is how do I show the love and compassion to my older son when my newborn will get most the attention just because we have to care for him without the older one getting really upset.



Always thought I could ask anything here and get some great feedback.

First off - good luck to your wife and to you.

Secondly, she timed it perfectly with regards to taxes and she deserves a shopping trip or spa day when this is all over.

You're not really a dad until you have two haha. I have two boys - a 6 year old and a 2 year old.

To answer your question, just make sure that he has a part in caring for the younger brother, to the extent he can. It will change over time but initially just giving holding him with supervision or "helping" change the diaper or something will help. My son was a little older than yours so it was a little easier for him to get with it. Also be sure to have alone time with each boy when you can so you can have a strong relationship with both of them as individuals. I play a lot with my little one and my six year old and I do Cub Scouts together.

As much as its a natural tendency to compare them (and we still do) my second son blew my mind as far as how different he was than his brother - from the first night in the hospital! Let us know how everything goes.
