Then I think there is another toll crossing into NJ? I can't recall as I've never gone that way.

You probably go the way my friend did when she and I went to the Dover race. It always just seemed out of the way to me and slower since it is smaller highways vs. I95/I495, but looks like it is only an extra 10 miles and 15 minutes. I'm considering it next time.

And it looks like the bay bridge toll is $6 now, but that one $6 toll eastbound is a lot less than the $12-$16 round trip it costs me now.
    Yup.

It's actually a good alternative since it's 2 lanes going in each direction and very little traffic(once you cross the Bay Bridge heading East that is). Pretty much open road save for the random Wildlife and State Troopers.

But if you do want to avoid the Tunnels/Tolls altogether, you can also take 695 West(headed towards Towson)and you wouldn't have to pay a dime as it takes you around the City.

On Tuesdays I believe there's a concert for kids and a huge fireworks display over the cove.
    Cool, I'll check that out.

Any restaurants you'd recommend or would I be better off driving to Savannah(which wouldn't be a bad thing since they have some good/great spots there)?

When I'm heading back to Mississippi, I take the 695 and just avoid Baltimore, but I am usually going to Alexandria on my trips down there so 695W takes you a bit out of the way; the eastern leg still has a toll. Before all the closed lanes in downtown Baltimore, it wasn't a big deal avoiding the tunnels during the day. Driving back at midnight, I just pay the $4 to stay on the interstate.

The bay bridge usually has some traffic, but late at night, I'd doubt there is all that much. And since it's 4 lanes, I think I definitely will give it a try, at least coming back. I go down every month or so and I think it is ridiculous to pay $150+ a year in tolls alone just to get there and back.

Yeah unless they're doing work on the Bridge, traffic at night on Rt.50/301 is just about non existent save for your usual Truckers.

It may add a bit to your drive time, but it's a lot better than shelling out $12-$16 on Tolls and less hassle as well in regards to the traffic.

Are toll roads pretty much an east coast thing? I don't think we have any in MN. And it seems like whenever I hear them referenced, it's out east.

There are no tolls in Wisconsin either.

On the list of good things about living here, which isn't long, that's on it.

Yes and no. There's actually three highways with tolls in Minn.

Ohh those are toll roads, I didn't even know the MNPass things were considered a toll road. Because those highways here are more toll lanes than toll roads. You can drive in the other lanes without paying.

I always pictured a toll road being something where you always had to stop at a booth and pay to get on the road.

They normally are. They'll have 5-6 booths where you can stop, and the fastpass lane on the left.

That's cool. Wonder what he's doing at a Toys R Us in Kennesaw, Georgia though.

Edit: OK, according to Wikipedia he lives in Roswell, GA. I thought he still lived in the Pittsburgh area full time.
