It's almost like it's become trendy simply to like music. I feel this way with shows now.

Any time the "I need a new show to watch" discussion pops up, it makes me want to blow my brains out.

I feel a response is needed, but I am unable to correctly and adequately articulate my thoughts of confusion and wonder at this peeve.

Was that a typo or am I missing something ? I don't see how it's trendy to like music. I must be misunderstanding the point or something.

My Boss (the CFO of the Company) invited us to his house to watch the LSU game this Saturday night. He even sent out a formal invitation to just the "Department Heads".

My conflict is that Alabama plays at the same time. This seems a little more personal than the usual "Y'all coming to the tailgate this weekend?" so I kind of feel obligated to go.

Sigh.

I get what he means. It's becoming more and more popular for people to say "oh I LOVE music" when they don't really listen to it a lot. Pandoa and Apple have made music listening a trendy thing.

I know people who say they love music but they don't listen to it at home and they listen to FM radio in the car.

My Boss (the CFO of the Company) invited us to his house to watch the LSU game this Saturday night. He even sent out a formal invitation to just the "Department Heads".

My conflict is that Alabama plays at the same time. This seems a little more personal than the usual "Y'all coming to the tailgate this weekend?" so I kind of feel obligated to go.

I know people who say they love music but they don't listen to it at home and they listen to FM radio in the car.

I was mainly referring to his quip about TV shows.

If all a person says about music is they love it then that relays to me they only listen to 30-40 songs.

From what he's describing, it sounds like the football game will just be background noise for a social gathering with coworkers. Sitting on a laptop could be offputting.

Off Topic 2013

I finally got that promotion I had been in line for at work. Full time hours, benefits, vacation, 401k plan, the whole enchilada.

Putting my two weeks in at the pizza shop tonight when I go in about half an hour.

I've just been cheesing all day. A year and a month ago, I had no job and was on the brink of financial disaster. Put my head down, went to work every day, and made the best of what I had. Today it all paid off. And it feels amazing.

I just want to tell everyone that if you put in your all, it's going to come back around for you. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but you keep doing the right things and working your butt off, I promise you it will pay off. It's been a beautiful life lesson. I can't help but think back and look at where I was, to where I am, and onwards to where I want to be... It's just an amazing feeling.

The music thing: I'm addicted. I rock avatars of my favorite bands, post lyric statuses on my Facebook/Twitter, own a few band t's, go to shows. It absolutely owns my soul. Music has taken me deeper into my own mind then anything. It means so much to me. Gotten me through the lowest lows and has been the soundtrack to the highest highs.

Nowadays, It's so easy to find and listen to all the music that is out there now. There seriously isn't enough time to listen to everything I want. Services like Spotify have changed the game.

Yes, let me bring my laptob to a million dollar home with a bunch of 40 and 50 somethings. I'm sure no one would think of me as weird or unsocial at all. Why didn't I think of that myself?

My only hope is multiple TV's within the same viewing area, but even if that is the case I'd be willing to bet that both TV's will have the same game on it.

Most everyone will be watching the game, but I'm sure there some who go just to chit chat as well. *cough women *cough

in that case he shouldn't go. I wouldn't.

Trust me, I wish I could skip it. Because

A) I don't really drink and don't care to be around a bunch of people who do
B) My wife is also a Dept. Head where I work and some of the other women who work here have a sort of "Mean Girls" attitude towards her. It will likely turn what would have been a "nice evening at home" into an "awkward evening away from home".
and lastly
C) The people I work for are the kind of people who hold petty grudges. This is the only the second time in almost five years that they've sent out an invite like this and the last one was canceled because of an unexpected death of a coworkers son. With yearly bonuses only two months away, my wife and I don't want to look like we're not "team players".

The only choice is to tough it out and go. Maybe I can fake the mud butt or something to get out of there at halftime (or make my wife fake it), but we HAVE to show face.
